This is a fragment of a larger 18th century European religious painting. The painting is very well painted in oil on wood with a gesso layer and depicts Christ carrying the cross with a thorn crowned head. Dimensions: 36 cm x 14, 5 cm (14 1/8 in x 5 5/8 in). A c1795 continental miniature of a gent who looks somewhat disgruntled, possibly with the waistcoat with blue polka dots and the black jacket with pearl buttons that his wife picked out for him. The reverse of the painting has a "B" embroidered on pink silk fabric. Both the front and back have beveled glass. The diameter of the gilt metal case is 2".

An oil on canvas painting of a young prince or son born of a noble family, 30" by 24 3/4", unframed, unsigned. The boy's face to my eye reminds of Goya, so perhaps this could be of Spanish origin (though, "FRANCE" is written on the stretcher in modern hand). The painting was relined sometime in the mid 20th century. There are some scratches at upper right which appear as white marks in the photos, some minor edge losses at lower left, and there is an even craquelure over much of the surface.
