An old oil on wood panel painting of a peaceful stream running through a wooded area, unsigned, 9 1/4" by 13", unframed. The work is obviously by a talented hand, probably a listed artist had he/she signed it. The oval artist's materials stamp on reverse of panel and the work itself suggests a date of circa 1900, maybe 1910. The oil needs some attention from a restorer to fully expose its original beauty...

Oil on canvas, 15 1/4" by 18 1/2" (22" by 25" as frame), the subject a copper or ceramic tub filled with red flowers , all against a simple background. The painting is not signed on the front but on the reverse is "Yerda Werkel" and "von Kurtz" and "1.9.46". Pencil signed at lower right, numbered 201/250 at lower left, is this circa 1975 modern print by the noted listed Israeli-born (Haifa), French artist who also worked in America, NISSAN ENGEL (1931-). The work measures 20" by 15" in its silvery metallic framing. The colors do not seem to be faded, though there is rippling in the paper visible in most of the margins, likely from exposure to a damp environment. There is no mold however...

A beautifully painted watercolor on natural wafer, with a very strong attribution to John Barry as the artist. The sitter is an attractive woman with brown eyes and gray-brown hair cascading down her shoulder. In 1981 Haku Maki suddenly produced a modest series of prints with a vinyl (old leather)-like background. I have already written about several of these in my Research Note 8. Now I present another: a striking orange red persimmon with leaves tipped with a special Japanese lacquer and the background in vinyl. This is 81-31 and it is 175/190.

By the noted Northwest artist Elton Bennett (1910-1974), a circa early 1970's serigraph print, "Hurrying Feet", featuring sandpipers on the shore, a coastal forest in the background, a luminous light typical of the artist's works filtering over it all.
