Watercolor on paper, 8" by 11 1/4" (12" by 15 1/2" framed), the scene a shallow, reedy small river and its grassy banks, a few majestic trees completing the peaceful scene. The artist signed his name "E. Starker" at lower left in pencil. Starker was a painter in Stuttgart and Leonberg. He studied at the Akademy Stuttgart with Kappis and Grünenwald and in Karlsruhe with Schönleber...

Watercolor painting of yellow roses on their prickly stems, 11" by 7 3/4" (16 1/2" by 12 3/4" framed), unsigned, circa late 19th century or early 20th. There is an old framer's label on the reverse backing from Boston. Condition is good, mat should be replaced, as well as old-style acidic old sawn wood backing boards. The mat edges did leave browning to mark their presence but that would be hidden completely by a new mat.

This color aquatint by Luigi Kasimir measures 17 3/4 x 15 inches, pencil signed, plated dated 1925, cat: Lorenz-5. Kasimir studied at the Vienna Academy of Art, although much of his etching technique was self taught and learned through working from nature. He specialized in atmospheric images of architecture, city scenes and landscapes; some bustling with people and automobiles, others quite timeless and serene.

This 1927 marine etching by the British printmaker Arthur Briscoe measures 9 7/8 x 15 7/8 inches, hand signed in inked and editioned as 58/75. Briscoe studied at the Slade Art School and the Academy Julian in Paris and then spent the rest of his time sailing, becoming one of the most prominent British marine artists of the 20th century. He owned his own three ton cutter which he used to sail around the Essex coast...

Watercolor measuring 14 1/4" by 20 1/2" plus 2" wide wood inexpensive frame, by listed Irish artist JOSEPH WILLIAM CAREY (1859-1937), signed J.W. CAREY and titled at lower right "Loch Lochy/Caledonian Canal" and dated 1920. There is an old 1920's or 1930's Belfast label on the reverse wood from William Rodman and Company, 41 Donegall Place BELFAST. This piece is showing its age, as it has evidently traveled through life for some time without protective glass...

The title is: La robe de chine,( The Silk Robe) created and printed in 1926, published by Les Graveurs Modernes, 194 rue de Rivoli, Paris. The image measures 15X18 1/4 inches. Hand signed in pencil lower right also with the windmill blindstamp and copyright information in the upper left corner. Very rich color remains, nice condition..This image appears in the Holland catalog as number 276.

Pair of small watercolors, one 3 1/2" by 6", the other similar at 4" by 5 3/4", each signed in a corner with monogram, one depicting industrial smoke stacks by a river at sunset, the other a pleasant promenade at river side with decorative lamp posts and arched bridge. The industrial work suggests London; the other could perhaps be Paris. Or both could be the same city. More research could help determine the identity of the artist. Condition is excellent...
