TWO antique original (not reproduction) lithograph prints with delicate, subtle hand coloring,by noted English artist and nineteenth century Middle Eastern traveler DAVID ROBERTS (1796-1864). The prints both measures 8 3/4" by 12 1/2" (14 1/2" by 18 1/2" as framed). Roberts is best known for his lithographed images of sites in the classical Middle East, of which these are typical examples. Mortimer Menpes, English, 1860-1938, "Interior of St Maclou, Rouen". This etching by Mortimer Menpes measures 12 3/8 x 6 3/8 inches, pencil signed, c. 1902, edition of 50, looking towards the Gothic Baldachin. Menpes attended the School of Art in London in 1878 and started exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1880. He became a major figure in the etching revival, producing more than seven hundred different etchings and drypoints, which he usually printed himself.

At first glance this appears to be a 17th century Dutch landscape oil on panel by someone like Ruisdael, Hobbema, Cuyp, Van Goyen, or other famous artists of that time and place.
