A still life painting by the listed Texas artist and teacher, Pattie Richardson East (1894-1994). East studied with Jose Arpa, Birger Sandzen, Harry Anthony De Young, and Joseph Fleck and exhibited extensively. The painting measures about 20" by 24", frame about 28" by 32". Fine example of her work.

Antique, 18th century, Greek Orthodox icon triptych, finely hand painted on wood panels. The center panel, with a niche carved as a raised arch, depicts finely hand-painted the Mother Of God, "HODEGETRIA," with silver painted nimbate and two Angels holding the Virgin's Crown of the Queen of Heaven, flanked by Greek letters "MP OY," an abbreviation of the Greek "Mater Theos" (the Mother of God).

The Theotokos is dressed in an embroidered maroon veil and holds Jesus with her left arm...

Watercolor on paper river fantasy scene set in the tropics, 10 1/2" by 22" and 3" wide circa early 20th century frame in very good condition, signed at lower right "W W COWELL" and dated 18(last two digits not easily discernible, possibly "189_" or could be "1879"). This is one of the rare works of painter WILLIAM WILSON COWELL (1819-1898), primarily an east coast artist who also was known to paint in the Great Lakes area, and, late in life, in Nova Scotia, Canada...

Pitt is shown half length with document on a desk. The engraving has been cut down within the plate marks and the legend at the bottom is rather damaged but still readan=ble.The engraved portrait is in good condition and has long ago been mounted on a strengthenoing sheet of paper. Sherwin was a well regarded follower of the more famous Bartolozzi. The portrait was engraved in the year of the French Revolution...

A wonderfully done naïve portrait of an older woman identified on the reverse as Almira Coolidge of Boston. The 3/4 length depiction shows the sitter holding a handkerchief and wearing a lace trimmed white bonnet, white lace fichu, and a red scarf over a black puff-sleeve dress with gold buttons. The background is nicely done in a striated and shaded blue-gray...

This is a work with a real WPA 1930's feeling to it, but it is dated 1965. The artist was IDA HANSGEN, or possibly, HANSGREN. (There's a little writing on the frame on reverse that suggests there might have been an "r" in her name). Very surprisingly, I cannot find a listing or any information on her...

Nicely painted on organic wafer, this miniature portrait is of a handsome gentleman set against a bluish-gray background. Housed in a low karat gilded cast foliate pendant case with an empty glazed aperture verso. The miniature is in a specially made leather case that opens and props open to allow the miniature to be displayed or removed.

Milagros are charms used for protection and for good luck. The word Milagro in Spanish means “miracle” or “surprise” and people in the past and present use milagros as symbols to wish others good luck, good health, and hope for the future.

The sculpture stands 7 3/4" at tallest point 6 1/2" across x 2 1/2" wide at base.
