Circa 1965 red free form metal sculpture on a black wooden base by George Curtis (1923-2010). Curtis developed a unique way of creating freedom as opposed to formal structure sculptures. Using a 5 gallon pail filled with water and potatoes, he would melt scrap aluminum and pour it into the pail. The result was an unvisualized form that humans have never seen before, a representation of the shape of spaces and caverns between objects. Measures 15" high.

Brooks Pettus (1918-2003) was a noted western American artist who passed away in Kennewick, Washington, leaving behind a large body of work in watercolor and oil that only recently appeared on the market. An example of the 1934/35 lithograph "Ruf Des Todes", from the "Death Cycle" series of lithographs by famous German artist KATHE KOLLWITZ (1867-1945). The sheet which measures 19" by 16" was long ago laid down to a board. Evident past attempts to remove an over mat has resulted in skinning of the paper in the lower portion, and residue from the over mat remains at top. There is a line from the old mat all around, with the paper within that line lightly browned...

A charcoal or soft pencil drawing of an unidentified young girl, executed circa 1950's, signed at lower right by the important New Hope School impressionist, JOHN FOLINSBEE (1892-1972). The work, 12" by 10" inside the mat, (19" by 17 1/2" in old frame with Trenton, NJ framer label on backing) is in excellent condition save for browning at edges from mat contact. Pencil drawing on paper signed "M.C" at lower right, 5 5/8" by 4" (13" by 10 1/2" as framed), the subject a sketchy topless Bali female nude. This is a work of major Mexican artist MIGUEL COVARRUBIAS (1904-1957). The drawing is on what appears to be a notepad printed with telephone number etc. from a hotel or business in Denpasar, Bali, Indoneisa. There is a collector stamp at lower left which I believe can be researched in the Lugt book of collector stamps...
