Watercolor painting of a harbor, probably Maine, signed at lower right corner by artist M. Matheson and titled in pencil on the reverse, appropriately, "Quiet Harbor" (with original $35.00 price). The work, on heavy watercolor paper, measures 15 1/2" by 22 1/2". It having slid down under the mat due to the old tape losing its grip, I removed this from the mat and frame, which are (possibly) available at no extra charge. The fairly ordinary frame measures 22 1/2" by 27 1/2"...

One of three works in my shop by the same artist, F. KENWOOD GILES (1899/1900-1972), is this watercolor on paper painting, 14" by 19 1/2" inside the mat, 20 1/2" by 26 1/2" as framed, the subject several pink-walled, white-roofed island homes on a bluff overlooking the sea, flowering shrubs and bushes completing the happy scene. The paintings are not dated, but I believe they would have been created in the 1950's. Giles was a versatile English artist who lived in Bermuda from 1950 onward...

Colorful oil on canvas unframed painting (24" by 20") featuring lily pads on a woodland pond, signed at lower right by listed California artist JOHN MARTIN HISS (1891-1972). It likely dates to about the 1950's. Hiss was essentially a talented hobbyist artist; he is best known as a physician and orthopedic surgeon who devised remedial treatments for disorders of the feet. The work is in excellent vintage condition. I note an inconsequential hairline scratch at mid right.

Oil on canvas, 40 1/2" by 32", in thin wood frame, signed at lower right and dated "57" by important twentieth century German artist ERNST FRITSCH (1892-1965), an artist mentioned in the same sentences as Bruno Krauskopf, Dix, Grosz, and other German art world giants of the twenties. Fritsch was born in Berlin and died there, and in between made a permanent mark on the art scene. He had joined the Berlin Secession in 1919, after having served in World War I...

This is one of three works I am offering, by a talented Canadian mid 20th century painter who signed her works "Eola Sutherland". Although there is online a photo of a gravestone for an Eola Hayton Sutherland (1884-1967) of Ontario, likely our painter, there is a lack of biographical information on the artist. A 12" by 16" vintage oil on Masonite work, (18 3/4" by 23" **in DAMAGED frame, not shown**), signed at lower left corner by well listed American artist LEONARD C. LANE (1910-1978). The painting is titled on old reverse label "Lighthouse at Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia". The circa 1950's label is from The Little Gallery, Jupiter Inlet Beach Colony, Jupiter Island, Florida. Lane was born in Bristol, England and emigrated to Canada with his family when he was sixteen...

A naive ink drawing, possibly by a child, charmingly titled "EXCHANGES", featuring a mounted cowboy on right firing at an Indian with chief's headdress, firing an arrow at the cowboy while crouching behind a protective rock. A cactus at far left and steer skull at right complete the composition. Probably dates to the early to mid 20th century. It is a simple image, but states a message in a rather straightforward manner. Size is 8" by 12" in simple wood framing.

"Still Life" oil on canvas 16" x 20" Julius Delbos was born in London England in 1879. He was a lecturer, painter, watercolorist, engraver and teacher. He eventually moved to the United States becoming a member of the American Water Color Society, New York Water Club, American Artists Professional League, National Arts Club, Society of Graphic Arts and the Century Club. He eventually came to exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery, Washington D.C...

An old watercolor painting titled at lower left "Atitlan Guatemala", signed at lower right by artist "M. Moody". This may be a listed watercolor artist by the name of Marion Moody but that cannot be confirmed. The work is well handled, the old architecture and five foreground figures nicely painted. Lake Atitlan is a famous scenic lake in central Guatemala, ringed by volcanic peaks and popular with tourists to this day. The painting measures 9 3/4" by 13" (13" by 17" framed).

Froylan Ojeda was born in 1932 in Veracruz. Ojeda, who possessed his own style since his beginnings in the study of art, developed fundamental qualities in the work of painter in both technique and subject matter.
