On the reverse, a modern label gives the title as "Nude with Veil". Friesz was born in Le Havre to a family of shipbuilders and sea captains...

Caron appears to have painted primarily landscapes, almost always with an impressionist hand...

According to Sotheby's London old master specialists, this painting is an ANTIQUE copy of the major museum work "Stormy Landscape with Philemon and Baucis" by artist SIR PETER PAUL RUBENS (1577-1640), one of the major figures in European art history. The original is presently in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, Austria...

A charming pastel portrait by Dorothy Colles which was commisioned for a "Trufood" advertizing poster. Dorothy Colles (1917-2003) was, according to an obituary in the Independent newspaper,"gifted in portraits of children". She has exhibited through the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of Portrait Painting. There is a water 'splash' above the head of the boy which we have not attempted to restore. Otherwise excellent condition. The picture 19.5 inches by 17.3 inches (49.5cm by 44cm)

Oil on canvas laid on masonite, 20" by 30", unframed, signed at lower right by Italian artist R. J. Bertini, and dated 1902 (possibly 1912). The scene is an interior with a large hearth in the background, four men appearing as cavaliers or musketeers around a table, engaged in an animated conversation with an old woman, as a young shy woman looks on from the left corner...

I do not see a lot of biographical information on the artist, but he did apparently work in a modernistic style, as Paul Klee or Lionel Feininger inspired semi-abstract or abstract works have appeared at auction in Germany...

Hand signed with pen and ink within the image lower right. The image measures 12X17 1/2 inches. Oil on canvas painting of white and pink roses in a blue bowl, signed at lower right "Strachan". The work, measuring 18" by 24" and 23" by 28 1/2" in likely original frame, has tiny losses in background and lower left area. The frame also has light wear, and losses on back of left edge. Overall, a very shabby chic piece in feeling. There is an old Los Angeles framer's sticker on reverse backing.

Some time ago one Connie Elrod offered me a set of the Maki zodiac in a format never seen before or since. These are not pulled from cement blocks. Rather they seem to be printed lithographs. One James Imai, a friend of Maki who lives in California, commissioned Maki to do a special zodiac set for the Lunar Year. Imai seems to have sent a card every year to friends. Imai sent them to his friend James Elrod seemingly one every year for 12 years...

Superb and well rendered painting on porcelain, German in origin and signed by Wagner on the lower right corner, has WR and # 107 engraved in the back on the lower right side. Measurements: The plaque is 4" x 6", housed in a 11" x 13" fine wood frame. Condition Report: Perfect condition.
