*One of two works by the artist in my shop**, this is an oil on board painting of what appears to be a wooden fence in a tawny landscape. The painting measures 11 1/2" by 14 1/2" and 15" by 18 1/2" in early gold framing. The work is signed at lower left. This artist, HALDANE DOUGLAS (1893-1980), was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was in Southern California by the early 1920's...

An antique soft pencil drawing of a young woman, unsigned and unattributed, 9 3/4" by 7 1/2", likely dating to the very early 19th century at latest, and more likely, well into the 18th century. The drawing would probably be of French origin. The paper has been affixed long ago to a thin card. Condition is excellent. The number "17" in old hand appears at lower right corner. Simple strip frame is of inlaid wood and is attractive.

Original lithograph print, 1979, featuring, as the AskArt listing so aptly describes, "joyful scenes that depict the plague of childhood in a childlike way...". The artist was born in La Paz, Bolivia, and was in Europe while very young, receiving art instruction. She trained in printmaking under Johnny Friedlaender. By the mid 1960's she had already received recognition for her work, and in 1979 the UNICEF organization utilized her imagery in a poster...

For the true R. CRUMB fan, after/in the style of famed comic art pop culture phenomenon R. CRUMB, an original drawing and associated writings, marker on standard yellow legal paper, two sheets, each 11" by 8 1/2". The figure in the imagery is a self portrait. THIS IS NOT BY THE ARTIST HIMSELF; the imagery was skillfully copied, apparently in the late 1970's from a splash panel of 1972's "The Confessions of R. Crumb", from THE PEOPLE'S COMICS, page 43...

Gouache and pencil on paper, 16 3/4" by 12 1/2" (slightly larger as simply framed), signed at lower left by listed American artist JOHN EDWIN JACKSON (1876-1950). The scene is a genteel one, with a proper southern gentleman and belle, in a grand architectural setting. The artist was very prolific, illustrating many books and magazines in the first half of the twentieth century, yet, little seems to be known about him. A few pieces have been sold at illustration art auctions...

Harold Kerr Eby Open Harold Kerr Eby configuration options 1889-1946 American This etching with sandpaper ground was created and printed by American artist Harold Kerr Eby. The title: Little Franklin is named for a Ledge located off the coast of Friendship Maine. The image measrues 8 1/2X14 5/8 inches. Printed in an edition of 100 in 1937. Eby left a skim of unwiped ink on the plate to create tone in the water. A fine impression, nicely framed with archival materials.

Forges and smithies are said to have been a lifelong favorite subject of Whistler. My research online suggests that this example is one of the 500 to 1000 examples printed from a transfer stone, to be published in The Whirlwind 2, no. 20, issue of November 15, 1890...
