Andrew Thomas Schwartz (American, 1867-1942) oil on canvas of a hilly landscape with the morning mist rising off the more distant hills. A few evergreens, probably cedars, sit in the field that appears to be tan with autumn. The only sign of habitation is a low stone wall. A very similar painting though slightly larger was sold at Doyle in New York in 2006 titled, “Clearing, Morning, Blue Ridge Mountains, Virginia” and dated 1912...

As Haku Maki aficionados know, Maki did many prints depicting the kanji for ox or bull. This one, Z-200b, is one of his great bulls. One of a small edition of 75, it is 12.5 in wide X 19in high. A large print of the steam and sail ship "La Touraine", the sheet approximately 25" by 36", total dimensions of frame 34 1/2" by 45 1/2". This is a highly decorative item for the nautical and marine art collector. The artist who created the painting on which the print was based was American FRED PANSING (1844-1916). His original art is expensive and scarce, but many prints were made after the paintings. Pansing was born in Germany and was in New York City by 1865, a sailor...

This oil on canvas painting of a waterfall in a forest, the light refracting the spray into a rainbow, was acquired by me more than 15 years ago here in Los Angeles. Measuring 14 1/2" by 11 3/4" (19" by 16" in circa 1930 frame), it retains some evidence of a signature, in red, at lower right, that signature ending in "s"; and on the stretcher confidently written in an old hand is "F. De Bergh Richards". (His name has been variously spelled as "De Berg", "DeBourg", etc.)...

Original 19th century lithograph "A Scene in Old Ireland", by Currier and Ives, the famous American printmakers. This is a true antique hand-colored lithograph and not a later restrike. The work is framed in a late 19th century wood frame with gold inner fillet. Wood backing with rotary saw marks indicates it was framed after the 1870's.
