For the fans of the "Big Eye" paintings, here is a pair of mid century retro style works in oil on board, each 23 1/2" by 11 1/4", and each signed at lower right. The signatures are hard to decipher; I'm guessing "Balmiani" or "Dalmiani". If I am reading them at all correctly, I am not able to tie these names to any of the listed, recognized big eye painters. Regardless of authorship, these are sure to please the devoted big eye collector...

Pencil signed limited edition print "Watering Hole", circa 1970's, by the important Western American artist OLAF WIEGHORST (1899-1988). The print measures 21" by 26" and 30" by 35" framed in grayish wood. It is numbered 364/1500 at lower left margin and the artist has signed it in soft pencil at lower right. Wieghorst's works sell at major auctions of western American art, into the hundreds of thousands. Rumor has it that his "Navajo Madonna" masterpiece sold privately for $1.5 million...

This is a rather unusual and visually arresting contemporary work by a Japanese or Japanese-American artist, signed at top right "Yasushi Saito" and dated there '78. An oil on canvas, unframed, measuring 23" by 19", the work is difficult to describe: a carp-like blue fish at right center appears with conical mountains that resemble Mount Fuji or desert peaks, as stunted bizarre vegetation, possibly trees, complete the visual feast...

Oil on canvas painting of a desert landscape, 18" by 24" (27" by 34" framed), signed at lower right by the listed California painter AILEEN POWERS STEPHENS (1889-1982). The artist also dedicated it to her daughter Helen, in July 1978, on the occasion of the latter's birthday, in an inscription on the reverse. Stephens was born in Kansas into an artistic family. She was related to the important 19th century American sculptor Hiram Powers...

A beautiful silvery-themed oil on Masonite painting of birch trees in a snowy winter landscape, by the noted California artist VERNON KERR (1938-1982). The work measures 20" by 16" (27 1/2" by 23 1/2" in silvery-goldish frame), is signed at lower left and signed again and titled "Winter Sleeping" on reverse, along with the artist's reference numbers and copyright statement. This is an excellent example of Kerr's work, likely dating to the 1960's or 1970's...

Original charcoal and pastel drawing by Wade Reynolds (USA, 1929-2011). This work is in excellent condition. Signed l.r. and inscribed: "For Harry--Merry Christmas 1977". 14" by 18" work alone, 21" by 25" in its gallery frame. Wade Reynolds was a L.A. California artist well known for his striking nudes. His work was widely exhibited: Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Cleveland Museum of Art, Miami Institute of Fine Art, etc.

Oil on canvasboard, 12" by 16" (17" by 21" as framed), signed at lower right by artist CURT PAULSON. I do not see a listing but the artist had a skilled hand. The style reminds a bit of California desert painters William Darling or Fred Chisnall. There is impasto, vigorous brush stroke, and a grayish blue light over the scene. Apparently original whitish antiqued frame completes this ready for the wall package. Condition is excellent.

Oil on canvas painting, 18 1/2" by 24 1/2" including the thin red wood frame, circa 1960's or 1970's, signed on the stretcher "John J. Molino". I don't see a listing for the name so offer the painting as a decorative mid century item. It is quite a colorful and dramatic work and will beautifully complement your Eames Era modern decor. I think there's a little bit of Stuart Davis color and imagery in this. Note how the paint is raised in the hard-edge striping. The painting is a little dusty...

The scene is dominated by an old, impressive coast cypress tree with lots of character, its sheltering branches framing more distant offshore rock and a church with twin steeples...

A vintage oil on board painting of an impossibly endowed southwestern desert scene, (possibly Arizona, since the saguaro grows natively only there) signed at lower right with initials "AHS". The painting, 14" by 18" (19" by 23" including linen covered surface around the painting) likely dates to the 1960's or early 1970's...

A nicely worked watercolor featuring the green farmland and coastal mountains of Ireland, signed at lower right by noted, listed Irish artist SAM MCLARNON (1923-2013). The circa 1970's work, 11 1/4" by 18" (17" by 23" in inexpensive modern framing), is in excellent fresh condition, the colors not faded. One can almost smell the oceanic air. There is some record that McLarnon has had auction records in the past as high as $10,000 but I cannot verify that information...

Italian Artist ArtistLuigi Avolio Sculpture of Neptune In .800 Fine Solid Silver highly detailed, and heavy in weight measuring 11.25” in height sitting on an onyx base that measures 3”x 4.5” The Avolio family was famous for sculpture in bronze and silver metals. Eugenio Avolio 1879-1929 was know for his large commissions and his son, Luigi has carried on the tradition of his father.

Watercolor on paper painting of the the pyramids of Giza, including graceful date palms towering over a neighboring oasis village. A camel, a donkey and several small figures complete the picturesque scene, which is signed at lower left by listed artist DAVID VASSILIOU. Vassiliou's biography is not extensive but he was evidently a prolific painter at mid century, most works featuring Egypt, Greece and the Mediterranean region. A whimsical, colorful painting of a cat, signed at lower right with initials "C.L" and dated there 1980. The work is on canvas, 21" by 25 1/4" framed. The unknown artist was certainly talented. Further research could possibly determine his/her identity. The painting is in very good vintage condition. There is a bit of light soiling here and there but no punctures or other issues.
