A rather elegant landscape painting with a modern feeling, the predominating colors subdued yet elegant grays and earth tones, signed rather illegibly with a European hand at lower right corner and dated there 53. The unframed work on canvas measures 23 1/2" by 31 1/2". Signature looks something like "Oltarini" or "Ott....." or "Ult....." but despite years of trying to figure this out I have not succeeded...

The painting, according to its previous owner, came from a large group of mostly signed works (in Oro Grande, CA where both artists painted) of the noted, well listed California and western artist JIMMY SWINNERTON (1875-1974)...

Watercolor painting of flowers in a vase on a tabletop, 16" by 18 1/2" (20" by 22" framed), signed at lower left corner by noted artist GUY DE BOUTHILLIER. The artist, born in France in 1893 to a French political minister, is said to have studied with Monet, Picasso, and John Singer Sargent (see printed label on reverse, with short biography, from the old Beverly Hills-based Martin Lowitz Gallery)...

Oil on canvas, 26" by 32" (34" by 40" framed, signed at lower right by mid century French well listed artist ABEL GERBAUD (1888-1954). This is a work in that modern School of Paris style popular at mid century. Note the title on the stretcher, "l'islandais dans le port de St. Goustain"...

Oil on canvas painting of a Paris street view, signed lower right by listed French artist ROGER DEVERIN (1884-1973). The oil measures 18" by 21 3/4" (23 1/4" by 26 3/4" as framed). Written in pencil on the old backing is the name of the artist and the title: "La Rue du Moulin de Beune Paris". The circa 1950's work is in generally excellent condition. There is a very small less than 1/4" length disturbance in sky showing as a light spot...

Measuring 16 1/4" by 21 1/4" (23 1/2" by 28 1/2" in its attractive and clean modern gold frame with liner), this is a beautiful impressionistic painting in oil by the noted orientalist French painter LOUIS MICHEL BERNARD (1885-1962). The subject could be a sunwashed port in the mountainous south of France, or, possibly, in Algeria or elsewhere in coastal North Africa, where Bernard spent much time. The artist was a student of Cauvy at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Algiers...

TWO lithograph (or other process) prints, 1958, "Village de la Sarthe" and "Le Village d'Herouville", each 8 3/4" by 10" inside the mat, and 14" by 15 3/4" framed, numbered 34/100 and 33/100 respectively at lower left margin and each pencil signed at right, after the originals by the famous and important French modern artist MAURICE de VLAMINCK (1876-1958). A vintage oil on canvas painting of a river canyon of the west or Southwest, circa 1950's, good-sized at 24" by 32" (32" by 40" in the likely original old charming frame), signed at lower right by artist Charles Crowder. I do not see a "listed" artist name that would correspond. The work much resembles that of California impressionist landscape artist James Merriam (1880-1951). Condition is excellent.
