Oil on canvas painting, 20" by 28" (24" by 32" framed), the subject a great clipper ship of the 19th century silhouetted against the setting sun (or dawn) on a calm sea. The painting is signed at lower left by the artist, William P. Lawrence and is dated below that either 1938 or 1928; difficult to discern. I don't see that he is a listed artist but obviously he was talented. The scene has a fine luminosity and clearly shows the painter's understanding of light and backlighting...

Unframed oil, on canvas painting, unsigned, circa 1920's or 1930's, measuring 25" by 32", the subject a rousing toast among a group of men in traditional eastern European or Russian clothing, a lone woman watching warily in the background. The painting is very dirty and as-found with craquelure. Trying to establish authorship, I contacted several prominent auction houses...

Jerome Myers, 1867-1940, American, Figures in a Park at Night, etching, image size 6 3/4 x 9 3/4 inches, numbered 5/50, pencil signed.
A nicely painted and peaceful 1920s-30s watercolour of a winter scene with a deer. This 5-1/2" x 3-5/8" sight size picture is in the original gilt embossed wood 11 x 9" frame with a gold mat. It is unsigned but looks like our other painting by L. Livingston (our stock number 5727), and it is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, fading, tears, staining, foxing, losses, damage or repairs...
Hermine David, French, 1886-1971, etching, "Dockside, Seine", image size: 9 7/8 x 12 1/2 inches, c. 1930, pencil signed lower right
The Venetian Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1696–1770) was arguably the greatest painter of eighteenth-century Europe and the outstanding first master of the Grand Manner. His art celebrates the imagination by transposing the world of ancient history and myth, the scriptures, and sacred legends into a grandiose, even theatrical language...
James Edmund Allen
1894-1964
American
This is an original pencil signed etching by American artist James Allen. The title is: The Builders, it was created and printed in 1932 in an edition of 100. The image measures 9 3/4X11 3/4 inches. Very fine condition apart from a couple of old glue spots on the back of the sheet, This etching looks great... The image appears in the Reese book, "American Prize Prints". This etching is in the Ryan catalog as image number 62...
This decorative, complex gouache drawing appears to be possibly a wallpaper design of the Art Deco period, or, it could just be a drawing in its own right. On the reverse is written the name "T.M. Abell". The eye-teasing geometric design seems to vibrate almost in the way that Op-Art of later decades vibrates and challenges the eye. Colors are greens, oranges and yellows, with white and black lightning-bolt type diagonal borders making for a most dramatic pattern...
A well-executed old watercolor (and a little gouache) painting of roses, glass vases and a Chinese blue-white plate, circa 1930, signed by artist ADELAIDE STRIGNER. Strangely, despite the quality of the work, I have not located a name of a listed known artist that would correspond. The piece measures 11 1/2" by 20" inside the mat and 21 3/4" by 30 1/2" in its period frame, which has some chip losses especially at right. There is an inconsequential old cut in the paper at upper right field. M...
Oil on canvas laid on Masonite, 20" by 16" (27" by 23" nicely framed in gold California style frame by Summit Frames of San Diego), unsigned, attributed to the famed American sculptor and artist, JOHN GUTZON BORGLUM (1867-1941). The painting features a large tree such as would be found in a California redwood or sequoia forest. The attribution comes in the form of some cryptic notes on paperwork affixed to the reverse side, and a placard placed on the front side. There is a post-zip code (aft...
