Oil on canvas, 18" by 24" and 1 1/2" wide white and gold painted frame, signed at lower left "EH Deffner '51" and inscribed on reverse "Sweetheart Lake/E.H. Deffner 10-'51/$150.00". This is a beautifully executed work by a talented artist, on whom I have not located a listing. From the subject matter I would suspect this work to be from the Pacific Northwest, like Oregon, Washington, or Northern California. There is a decidedly modernistic handling to the leaves on the tree at right...

By the noted American photographer CHRISTOPHER FAUST (born 1955) is this black and white silver print photograph "Seattle Art Museum", 1995, measuring 5" by 12 1/2" (21 1/2" by 25 1/2" in contemporary-looking black frame under Plexi). The motorized sculpture in the plaza, "The Working Man", is by Jonathan Borofsky. It is today an iconic piece of the downtown Seattle scene. The photographer was born in Fort Riley, Kansas and is today closely associated with Minnesota...

Created in the 1980s, Haku Maki did a series of rarely seen prints called Drop. They seemed to depict oil dropped onto the surface of water. Drop 7 is one of those prints. It is no. 32 of 203 and it measures 9.75in W x 11in H. As with many old prints, it has tape residue on the four edges of the back from a previous framing but there is no impact on the face of the print.

He began painting as a young man while at boarding school and at the age of 22, not long after his father passed away, Ranucci set out for Latin America seeking personal exploration and adventure. One of dozens of drawings by this artist that I recently acquired, (ask to see others, not shown in my shop) this is a sketch in soft pencil on paper, the drawing and frame 10 3/4" by 22", signed at lower right, and dated there '65, by California and Massachusetts listed artist DAISY MARGUERITE HUGHES (1882-1968). Hughes was born and died in Los Angeles but in between she spent much time in the Provincetown art colony on Cape Cod...

Chinese brush painting by Nie Ou. A well known female artist in China, she was born in 1948. She graduated from the Central Art Academy School in Beijing and has received several awards. Her work is shown worldwide. This is one of seven pictures we have. It is mounted on silk brocade. The entire area is 19 inches by 29 inches; the picture size is 13 inches by 18 inches.

Anne Lane studied art at George mason University in Virginia, completed her education at Saint Patrick’s college, Ireland, where she studied theology and philosophy. The tonal and contemplated intensity of her paintings reflect her 10 years spent working as an artist under the desert sun of New Mexico. Her vibrant style,resonant with color and baroque in detail,swoons its delight over her canvases...

Striking modern painting on masonite panel, signed on the reverse "Kalamaras --72", likely tempera, the image difficult to describe: the viewer appears to be looking out of a green-framed two pane window at a neighboring house with reddish wall, sloping roof line, and a wooden-looking door-like window.......well, it IS difficult to describe. The work measures 19 1/2" by 15 1/2" inside the frame; inside the green outlines of the "window" the size is 14" by 9 3/4"...

One of two works in my shop by apparently the same artist, (acquired at different times---the other JB01670): a watercolor on paper, 10 3/4" by 7 1/2" (17" by 14" in its simple green frame), signed illegibly (faint, at lower right), the subject a Spanish (most likely) church tower, the foreground dominated by impressive arches and columns. I have included three photos of the faint signature and leave it to the viewer to try to decipher it...
