This is one of the rarely encountered works of Latvian-born artist FREDERICK (FRIEDRICH) A. LEEKNEY (1880-1939), signed at lower left, where he wrote "Laguna Beach 1923". The piece, measuring 14 1/2" by 10 1/2" (23" by 19" framed), features grasses at the sand's edge. This would have been painted around the time that the Laguna Beach art colony was at its classical peak, when the town was a magnet to artists of all sorts...

A scarce watercolor work of Southern art, the subject a street scene with traditional historic architecture including a church, two tiny figures and a tree, measuring inside the wood frame 9 3/4" by 7 3/4" (14 3/4" by 13" framed). The scene could be New Orleans or Charleston, South Carolina; I found the work in western Virginia. There is a signature at lower right but all attempts to read it have failed, though, it does appear that the date 1905 is at lower right...

A nicely executed large watercolor painting of a vase with lilies and cattails, on a table top with candlestick prop, the entire sheet 27" by 22 1/2" (31" by 27" framed), signed under the mat by listed American artist LONA MILLER KEPLINGER (1876-1956). The work has an Arts and Crafts feeling. Colors are rich and not sun faded. The artist was born in Indiana and is most closely associated with Maryland, where the 1930 census information shows her living in Bethesda...

Large fine English antique mid 19th century print of mounted riders in traditional red coats, and their trained hounds, in an extensive landscape, the title "John Josselyn Esq. and the Suffolk Hounds", engraved by Charles Mottram (1807-1876) after the painting by Edward Robert Smythe (1810-1899). The print, mounted long ago to a board, was published circa 1865 by Henry Graves & Co. of Pall Mall...

This is a very fine watercolor and gouache painting featuring a number horsemen outfitted in their best formal red riding coats, their accompanying hounds in the heat of the fox hunt. The artist was the very well listed watercolorist ALFRED VILLIERS FARNSWORTH (1858-1908). Farnsworth signed the painting at lower right and dated it there 1906, the year of the great San Francisco earthquake. The detail and sense of motion in the work demonstrates the mastery of Farnsworth...

Oil on canvas, 21" by 15 3/4" (24" by 19 1/2" as framed), unsigned, the subject an Austrian, Swiss, or German village in deep snow on a brilliant sunny day. The sharp peak in the background center could be the Matterhorn, in which case we could assume the subject is Zermatt, Switzerland. I'd guess the age of the work as circa 1950's. On the stretcher someone has written "AUSTRIA (TIROL) cca 1950"...
