This antique early 19th-century Spanish Colonial Mexican Retablo features Our Lady Refuge of Sinners (Nuestra Senora de Refugio de Los Pecadores). It is finely hand-painted in oil on a tin panel. This is a wonderful large watercolor (18 1/2" by 27"----28" by 36" as framed) executed in the nineteenth century by English artist WALTER TOMLINSON (ca. 1833-1909). The scene is Ann Hathaway's famous cottage in Stratford-on-Avon, which Shakespeare lovers will recognize as the town associated closely with the Bard himself. When I first saw this I assumed it was a print and was amazed to find that it was indeed an original work of art...
