Darley, fecit." and at lower center "Entered according to act of Congress, A.D. 1869, by D. Appleton & Co in the clerks' office of the district court for the southern district of N.Y.", and at lower right "H.B. Hall, Jr. sc."...

Watercolor on paper, 15" by 11" inside the mat (21" by 17" as framed), signed at lower right by listed American artist GUSTAVE A. BRAND (1863-1944). This is a nicely crafted work of an overly ardent suitor chasing his classically dressed prey in an overgrown garden setting. The artist is not well known but he is listed and was apparently known in Chicago and the Midwest as a muralist...

Colored lithograph from encyclopedic entries. Framed dimensions are 19.25x17”. Unframed dimensions are 9.25x7.5”.

A most interesting circa 1960's work featuring a group of older, mostly one story buildings in a town, those buildings apparently of stone, judging from the earthy colors. A dark blue sky elegantly sets off the earth tones, making for an interesting play of light and color. Brush strokes are vigorous and sure. The painting is oil on canvasboard, measuring 9" by 13" (12 3/4" by 16 1/2" framed), signed with initials that could be "CB" at lower right...

This carved lapis lazuli melon shape snuff bottle is 2 ½ inches tall, 1 ¾ inches wide and 1 ¼ inches thick. The artist carved a large melon as the snuff bottle and a smaller melon with leaf and spouts as decoration. The snuff bottle is well hollowed but has some natural flaws. It is in great condition.

Written in pencil in old hand on the tattered framing paper is "San Capistrano Mission". Although unsigned, the handling, subject matter and color palette are unquestionably of the hand of the noted California prolific painter RICHARD DETREVILLE (1864-1929)...

An impressionistic palette knife painting of dramatic, high, already snow-streaked mountains in peak autumn season, signed in the paint at lower left "W HARISCH". This 14 1/2" by 19 1/2" work (18" by 23" as framed) is by listed Canadian artist WILLIAM HARISCH (1914-1967). Harisch painted in a style that appears clearly European, and indeed works of his native country (one titled "Heidelberg") have come to market...

Watercolor on paper, unframed, unsigned, dated 1924 and titled "Col Spgs", showing old houses against a mountain backdrop. This is a beautifully executed work by an artist that I would imagine is listed, but, he didn't sign his work. The sheet measures 12" by 17 3/4". There is a sketch of a man's profile on the reverse. If you live along I-25, or even if you don't, you will appreciate this fine old drawing from Colorado Springs, where the Broadmoor art colony flourished.

Oil on canvasboard painting titled on backing paper "LAVISH FALL PALETTE/LONGS PEAK", signed at lower right by artist RUTH ERWIN (1904-1994). The work, featuring flaming aspen in the Colorado high country in high autumn, a view to monumental Longs Peak in the distance, measures 10" by 8" (18 1/2" by 16" framed). I've gathered a few nuggets of information on the artist through the net...

Scarce Currier and Ives lithograph print, sheet size 11" by 15", image area 8 1/2" by 12 3/8", titled "Prairie Hens". This is apparently a scarcer small folio image, as Cohenour prices it over $400 in his Currier price guide. The print is in acceptable condition, with the image area generally clean, and only one tiny spot of foxing visible, although there is a diagonal light crease at upper right corner, visible only when viewed in raking light...

In 1977 Haku Maki did the images for the months of the year. June is a horizontal print measuring 13.75in W x 6in H.

Colorful vintage unframed impressionist painting of the iconic Taos Pueblo in New Mexico, painted in a bright palette, oil on canvas laid on board, 12" by 14", signed at lower right with conjoined initials "MP", a typical signature of California artist MARION RANDALL PARSONS (1878-1953). Parsons was born in San Francisco and lived most of her life in the Bay Area...

A circa 1950 artistic black and white photo of the docks at Monterey, California, pencil signed on the mount as "Edna S Deuren" or similar. The gentlemen standing at left with fedoras and cap are looking down on the small fishing craft at a time when Monterey's fishing industry was in high gear. Measurements are 9 1/4" by 7 1/4" (photo itself) and 20 1/2" by 17" as framed. Condition is very good.

A small poster, reproducing a perhaps vintage 1920's sepia-toned photograph of a young African-America woman posing nude in front of fireplace, issued by the pioneering Los Angeles fine art photography gallery G. Ray Hawkins, to promote an exhibition of photographs by the noted Harlem Renaissance African-American photographer, JAMES VAN DER ZEE (1886-1983). Van Der Zee's works are coveted today, selling at auctions of fine photographs and African-American memorabilia and art...
