Esther Anna Hunt (1875-1951) is known today in California art circles as a keen observer of the traditional culture as displayed in San Francisco's Chinatown. Her paintings and plaster bust models of young girls in traditional costume make regular appearances in auctions of California art. This work appears to have been created by one of Hunt's many early 20th century imitators. Fine Drawing illustration by artist J.J. Gould 10x15 inch Framed size 20x24 inches Joseph J. Gould, better known as J.J. Gould, was born in 1880. Gould lived in Philadelphia and designed posters for Lippincott's during the mid-1890s. After 1900, Gould went on to design and illustrate 21 covers for The Saturday Evening Post.

Original oil on canvas attributed to Lillian Genth (American, 1876-1953), early 20th Century. This painting measures roughly 42" by 31" in its frame. It is initialed L.G. upper right, and interestingly enough inscribed "Nelson" (for George Laurence Nelson, with whom she painted in Connecticut) on the back. From the collection of Robert Austin, author of "Artists of the Litchfield Hills". This painting is in excellent condition.

A charming work in watercolor with white gouache highlights, 13 1/2" by 10 1/2" (19" by 16" framed), featuring a young woman in the hugely popular Gibson tradition of the early years of the century, viewing her image in a hand-held decorative Art Nouveau mirror as she applies her lipstick. This is a pretty, impressionist circa 1930's small landscape painting of trees and a path bordering water, painted on gray art board, measuring 9" by 12" (13 1/2" by 16" framed). There is no signature on the front but on the art board label is written in ink "Swick". This may or may not be the artist. The painting is so nicely executed, but its inherent beauty is dulled by decades of dirt. A professional cleaning will truly transform this one...

Old watercolor painting of ducks under a tree by the side of a lake or river, 11 3/4" by 18" (25" by 31 3/4" framed), signed at lower left by artist CONSTANT ARTZ (1870-1951). The poetic work dhows the birds taking refuge under a tree as a storm is perhaps approaching. Indeed, written in old hand on the backing is "The Storm" (probably not by the artist himself). Fine original watercolor painted by British Orientalist Augustus Lamplough, R.W.S. (1877-1930) depicting the wonderful temple complex of PHILAE on the Nile, Egypt.
