Banka Maruyama was a Japanese watercolor artist whose work spanned the Meiji, Taishō and Shōwa periods. Today, his work can be found in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.

The work is executed in charcoal with a little white gouache, on paper, the unframed sheet 12" by 10", signed at lower right in the artist's typical manner. Gladys Emerson Cook (1899-1976) was known for her sensitive and accurate depictions of dogs, cats and other animals. She was a painter, illustrator, and graphic artist. Today a number of museums include her works. She exhibited at the National Academy of Design and other major venues...

This is a fine old drawing of an old-style wooden house with porch, an ancient old tree arching over the structure and two tiny figures at left. The drawing on paper, laid on a board, measures 14" by 9 1/2" inside the mat and 19" by 14 1/2" as framed. There does not appear to be a signature anywhere, but considering the quality of the imagery we must conclude that the artist was trained and listed. Found in Riverside, California, with Santa Barbara framer's sticker on the backing...

An old oil on gray board painting of a stone bridge over the Seine River in central Paris, in high autumn. The work measures 9" by 12" (11 3/4" by 14 3/4" in attractive maybe 1930's frame). The signature at lower left appears to be "E Turner", the "E" placed on top of the "T". If I am reading this correctly, there does not appear to be a listed artist that would correspond. In any event, the work is excellent, and by a trained hand.

An old watercolor painting of the famous Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany, unsigned, circa 1940. The piece measures 9 1/4" by 7 1/2" inside the double mat and 14 1/4" by 11 1/2" as framed. I do not see a listing for this name, which appears to be of Polish origin. The painting is in oil on paper. I think from the looks of it, a date around 1940 would not be out of line, but it is hard to tell.
