Watercolor on heavy paper, 6 1/4" by 9", (9" by 11" as framed), unsigned, the subject a marble Parthenon-like classical ruined temple at right, several picturesquely dressed figures in the right foreground, and a cypress tree at left framing the scene. I would guess the age as circa mid 19th century. Unfortunately there is no signature nor other hint as to authorship...
Original Victorian mourning graphite drawing of a dog protecting child from a raven. Signed in pencil by artist. In very good condition. Not inspected out of frame, but there is some age related foxing around the bird. Measures in frame 27" x 21".
German Artist Gustav Müller, Forest and Brookside oil c.1900 Oil on canvas measuring 18 x 24“, frame and its original circa 1900 frame 23 x 30“
For the natural history aficionado or decorator, a PAIR of original finely detailed drawings in watercolor and ink, one titled faintly in pencil "Scorpions", the other featuring other unidentified but quite exotic-looking creatures with many legs. Each drawing is 8 1/4" by 6 1/2" inside the mat, and the works are identically framed (13" by 11")...
John Singer Sargent attributed portrait of Moffit Anderson 1879, pastel on paper 32x28. Drawn in Savannah Georgia in 1879
This is an exceptionally early, student work by the ultimately famous and important American-born artist who lived much of his life in Europe. The scene is of a group of fashionably dressed people listening to the guide at left, inside one of Florence's art museums, probably the Uffizi Gallery, the walls hung with pictures, a copyist at his easel, and other tourists gawking at right. The drawing is ink on paper laid on board, and is signed at lower right "Cucuel" and dated there "99"...
Drawing on paper, 6 1/2" by 9 1/4" the scene only, 9 1/2" by 12 1/2" as framed, signed at lower right, followed by "fec. 1818" (abbreviation of the Latin word "fecit", meaning "executed", in that year). Try as I might, I cannot make out the name. I've tried Pfohl, Pfahl, Pigott, and so on. In any event, here's a drawing that has survived in excellent condition after nearly 200 years...

Eighteenth Century Print “In Bridewell Beatling Hemp”, engraving by William Hogarth 13x16 inches
Framed watercolor on paper painting of small boats on shore and in a bay, unsigned, circa late 19th century. The (likely) east coast scene measures 9" by 19 3/4" inside the mat and 14 1/2" by 25 1/2" as framed. I did open up the backing to peer inside, in search of a signature, but a signature was not found. The paper was evidently mounted on a board in the nineteenth century, as that board has the old telltale down-the-middle line where the two old wood boards would have met...

There is a small white spot in the right area (see photos) and dark spot above that... there is also rippling in the upper left corner-- the paper may have been pasted to a background but we have not examined it out of the frame. 12" x 16"
Xanthus Russell Smith (February 26, 1839, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – December 2, 1929, Glenside, Pennsylvania) was an American marine painter best known for his illustrations of the American Civil War.………….. The most historic event of Kearsarge's history was her historic duel with the Alabama off Cherbourg, France in 1864 as it was the only naval duel in which an American warship was one of the principals. On 19 June, Alabama stood out of Cherbourg Harbor for her last action...
