Pair of early Edo period carved Baku mythological elephants. These would have been built into the design of a temple, displayed high up by the beam construction. Hand carved with great care from a single piece of Keyaki hardwood (zelkova wood).

Baku are Japanese supernatural beings that dispel evil spirits and devour nightmares when the mouth is open and retain good spirits when the mouth is closed...

An original circa 1870's photograph of a sculpture of a warrior, in the National Museum of Greece in Athens, the photograph by the famed "Fratelli (brothers) ALINARI" of Florence, Italy. The photo measures 9 1/2" by 7 1/2" inside the mat and 22 1/2" by 19" framed behind (scratched) Plexi. On the reverse is a hand written not giving the Alinari name and title "Stele du guerrier Aristion/Museee Nationale Athens, Greece"...

Fabulous miniature painting depicting Qutub Minar, in-cased in intricately carved frame, no visible signature and I believe the item has been painted by European artist. Size: The ivory plaque is 1 3/4" x 2 1/2" housed in the 5 1/2" x 4 1/2" frame. Condition Report: Absolutely excellent condition.

Oil on canvas landscape of an autumnal forest with small foreground lake or pond, a man in a boat, signed in red at lower right, difficult to decipher the signature, though the work bears an old export stamp and an old label from a Budapest, Hungary auction house. The painting measures 21" by 10 1/4" plus two inches of framing on a side including inner gold fillet and green velvet liner. The signature looks like "J Tietz" or something similar but that is just a guess...

Late in life, circa 1999, Japanese master print maker, Haku Maki, did this shikishiban print. It is called Z1-12 (WAZA); 7.25'' x 8.25''; Shikishiban is a nearly square format. Shikishiban are often mounted on a thick, light cardboard. Japanese people like to give them as presents. The print is in the US and will be shipped from there.

An example of a naïve or "primitive" landscape painting in the Hudson River School style, 23 1/2" by 30", (30" by 36" in old frame), unsigned as is typical, circa late 19th or possibly even very early 20th century. The painting has all the elements of such paintings----the feathery trees, cottage with quaint smoke from a chimney, a lone figure in foreground, small distant boats, distant mountain...

SIno-TIBET Silvered Bronze seated Sculptures consisting of a Lama, and a silvered sculpture of Alaokitesvara , both late 19th century the seated monk with stylized flowers to each side, wearing a robe with patterned borders, seated on a lotus base, later sealed with copper under base with stamped floral designs, h: 6.5 in.; the seated goddess wearing a six-leaf crown and a very high chignon, wearing elaborate robes and jewelry, seated cross-legged with a stylized cobra in her hands...

An excellent oil on canvas example of the painting of Spanish artist EDUARDO PISANO (1912-1986), measuring 25" by 21" (31" by 27" in silvery attractive framing/liner). Subject is a clown or other generalized comic figure with a lute/stringed instrument. Pisano is considered a member of the "Spanish School of Paris", along with figures like Clave, Peinado, Emilio Grau Sala, Oscar Dominguez, Pedro Flores, Gines Parra and Manuel Ortiz de Zarata...

ONE OF TWO WORKS BY THE ARTIST IN MY SHOP--Abstract oil on canvas painting, 32" by 25 1/2", unframed, dated on reverse "1996/97", signed there by noted American 20th century contemporary artist CASS SHAW. Shaw, based currently in the Los Angeles area, has had wide exposure of her work, the exhibition history in the United States and France going back to the 1970's. This is one of two works by the artist in my shop (they were acquired at the same time)...

A nicely painted watercolor of wild roses, signed at lower right by artist M. J. Gage, circa 1900. Found in Boston area, The work measures 6 1/4" by 12 1/4" inside the double mat and 14" by 18" as framed in oak. Colors are fresh considering that this is a century old. Clean and ready for the wall.

Ernest Albert, NA, New Canaan, Conneticut, 1857-1946. This gorgeous impressionist landscape is a soft, beautiful pastel scene showing trees and hills under a light blue sky. It has lovely thick paint which shows off the artist's masterful brushstrokes. It is 8 1/2" by 10 1/2" housed in a fine antique deep gesso decorated 2 1/2" frame giving it overall dimensions of 15 1/2" by 15 1/2"...

Pastel and gouache mixed media work on red paper, measuring 18 1/4" by 13 1/2" plus thin old black wood frame, signed at lower right with what appears to be "Macero Arbuckle" and dated '04 (1904). I don't see any information on the artist. This is an interesting illustration work that is quite subtle, and being subtle, doesn't lend itself to being photographed easily. Condition is excellent. There is an old sticker on glass at lower left corner with "13" written on it.

A PAIR of contemporary unframed 8" by 10" oil on canvas paintings of whitewashed buildings and blue seas, as one would see in Santorini or another of the famous Greek Islands of the Aegean Sea, one work signed lower right "Billis". These were likely souvenirs of a great vacation, brought home by tourists wanting some imagery to remind them of the spectacular Greek Islands. I have removed the frames, which were damaged and useless...
