Carol Chase formally of the Washington area is an abstract painter whose work is figurative born in Kansas City in 1947. This work on fine French paper is attractive and well framed.

This note shows two book plates depicting flowers. They were provided by Michael Minckler. The plates are signed Takako. Maejima Takako is the name of Maki's wife.

A French portrait miniature of a woman done in watercolor on natural material. The sitter, clearly a woman of means,is dressed in au courant fashion in an elaborate white lace hat, a blue ribbon at her throat, and a white lace fichu over her blackish green dress.

On the backing of the painting is written in ink (at the time the painting was done) in French, the name of the sitter "Antoinette Francoise Garison," some other information, and that she was born on September 20, 1773 (see photo #4)...

Oil on canvas Asian painting of a rural landscape in tropical Indonesia, 19 1/2" by 27 1/2" (24 1/2" by 32 1/2" framed), two female figures at center washing in the small lake or pond, a towering mountain range piercing the clouds in the distance, bamboo thicket at right, and a flaming flamboyan or poinciana tree at left, signed at lower left "M. He is posed wearing his glasses, which is rarely seen in portraits. The backing paper of the ivory contains the following information in Dodge's hand:
"Painted by/John W. Dodge/Feb 1850/Natchez Miss".
