Francois Charles Cachoud, French, 1866-1943. This gorgeous, lush night painting is Cachoud at his best. It is 25.5" by 32" in a stunning 19th C Gold leaf frame, with framed dimensions of about 35.5" by 42". It is fresh from an estate and is in good condition but needs a light cleaning and some touch up on the frame. A student of the great Gustave Moreau and Robert Delauny, he competed in the Salon de Paris, 1892 through the 1940's...

This Autumn Landscape (13 1/2" X 19 1/4") is signed on the lower left side Francis Villeret. This oil on canvas has been cleaned and it is mounted in a new frame. Villeret was born in 1800 and died in 1866. His art can be found in many European Museums.

An old watercolor painting of the famous Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany, unsigned, circa 1940. The piece measures 9 1/4" by 7 1/2" inside the double mat and 14 1/4" by 11 1/2" as framed. The frame is modern and functional. Note the detail, including tiny figures and old cars and even double-decker buses. The gate, which dates to the 1730's, was severely damaged in World War II. I believe the artist may have created this during the war or just before it...

Watercolor and gouache painting on paper, 20 3/4" by 32 1/2" inside the mat (37" by 50" as framed), signed at lower right by noted well listed American 19th century artist Edmund Darch Lewis. Lewis was a prolific artist. He worked in both oil and watercolor. Auction records have exceeded $90,000 for his finest oils. I once saw one oil of a tropical landscape in Cuba, in the Hudson River tradition, priced at $25,000, and that was too low...

A beautifully done Horace Hone portrait, painted on natural wafer, signed and dated "HH 1782" on the right. The sitter might well be Mary, Viscountess Dillon, as she bears a great resemblance to another portrait Hone did of her. Whether this is the case or not, the subject of this miniature is a striking blue-eyed woman, with a coquettish mien to her...

The unframed work measures 28 3/4" by 23", and is signed by the artist at lower left and dated there 1953. The Illinois-born Lutz is known today for his urban landscapes and genre subjects, often painted with bright color and with heavy impasto...

One could call this work a homage to Jackson Pollock and Sam Francis: colorful drips in red, blue, yellow and gray, on an inky black background, 20 1/4" by 24 1/2" as simply framed in silvery metal behind Plexiglas. There is no signature. A fine choice if you are looking for original abstract art for your mid century or modern interior.

This is a watercolor painting of the famous Philippe's French Dip Restaurant in downtown Los Angeles, an iconic area landmark to this day. The restaurant opened in 1908 and remains a vital part of Los Angeles' living history. At the restaurant, so the story goes, in the year 1918, a food preparer accidentally dropped a hot meat sandwich into the juices of the cooking pan. A customer requested it, despite its "compromised" condition...
