Something of a mystery, this is a very interesting soft pencil drawing of a young woman, 13 1/4" by 9 1/4" (19" by 15" framed), signed indecipherably at lower right and dated there 1931. Try as I might, I have absolutely come to a dead end when it comes to figuring out this signature. Adjacent to that signature an inscription reads "Baroness Leonnie Perraja"...

Oil on board painting of whitewashed, red tile roof typical California architecture, a garden in bloom in the brilliant sunshine, painted circa 1940 by an anonymous artist. The impressionist technique is outstanding, and I believe that were this signed, we would see the name of a listed artist. Written in old hand in pencil on the reverse of the board is "Pomona College Claremont". Pomona College, now part of the Claremont Colleges, is today a prestigious and selective liberal arts instituti...

ESKEY (1891-1937), 12 1/2" by 7 3/4" as framed in vintage wood. The scene is an iconic one, often captured by artists enamored of the charm and romance of California's early days. Eskey was born in West Virginia and served in the military in France. By 1928 he had settled in North Hollywood and was creating prints, pen and ink drawin...
Oil on board painting of autumnal trees, (California sycamores?), hazy mountains in the distance, unsigned, circa 1930's or 1940's. The work measures 9" by 12" and 11 5/8" by 14 1/2" in old probably original frame. The lack of a signature frustrates an effort to identify this talented artist, who might well be listed. The ornate frame is in good condition save for a missing chip at upper left. Painting is a bit soiled consistent with its age. There is a vertical line of soiling or foreign m...
Old Russian painting of a night winter landscape with figures, oil on canvas, 12 1/2" by 18" as framed, signed with Cyrillic letters "P O" or "L O" at lower right. To date I have been unable to match the letters to any particular artist (nor could the Christie's Russian art specialist, when she saw it). The painting is extremely soiled and the canvas very uneven (could be described as sunken in, and the ripples "hardened" over time). Cleaned up and restored to a flat surface, this would be qu...

Oil on canvas painting of trees in a tawny dry landscape, 12" by 20" and 1" wide old wood frame, signed at lower left by artist S. J. TUJAGUE. At first I had difficulty reading the signature but some net research showed this to be by an artist apparently at least originally hailing from Louisiana, there being a number of pieces, some still life works, having been auctioned in New Orleans. A famous restaurant in that city goes by this name. From the looks of things the talented artist might ...
