Detailed antique watercolor drawing of a country villa in a park-like setting, an elegant horse-drawn carriage approaching from left, 6" by 9 3/8" (11 1/4" by 14 1/2" in modern day frame), signed at lower right "Herter" and dated there 1838. The villa seems to have Italian or other Mediterranean architectural characteristics, so perhaps we are in Italy, and the artist is a traveler from Germany. This is all speculation as I cannot locate an appropriate artist of this name...

Circa 1880's painting in oil on a 14" diameter papier mache style plate, unsigned, featuring a winter scene at dusk. This charming antique work by an anonymous artist has nice detail and light. The artist was not professional but certainly had some training and a good eye for color and composition. The work has acquired some small losses, showing as white spots in the imagery, and along the rim. See old original label on reverse with 1880 patent date. Found in coastal New Jersey.

Sold together as a **PAIR**, two watercolor paintings, each signed "BUZZI", one measuring 13 1/2" by 9", the other slightly larger at 14 1/2" by 9" (both 23" by 16 1/2" as framed), the subject two ladies going about their daily activities, dressed in 19th century garb. Condition of both is excellent, with fresh color, and no foxing/staining. The artist is most likely by listed artist Achille Buzzi or possibly Arturo Buzzi.

An interesting late 19th century, antique drawing of woodland plants, unsigned on front, word "Stanyan" on reverse, where the date "Oct. 28th/84" is written in pencil in old hand. The work measures 15" by 11" (slightly smaller inside the pink mat--which plays off the pink flowers) and 23 1/2" by 19 3/4" in frame (no glass)...

19th Century American School 1800-1899 American Artists This is an original oil on canvas painting, signed and dated lower right, but we cannot make out who the artist was. This painting of Harbor Traffic is dated 1874. Possibly the work of Francis Silva. The painting measures 12X20 inches. We are calling this work 19th century American School. Nicely framed in a period gilt frame. Fine detail and color, this is an outstanding work of art.

Oil on canvas of a blue-eyed elderly lady wearing a white bonnet, 27" by 22" (34" by 29 1/2" in the 19th century frame), that attractive old frame bearing a placard giving the name of the artist as WILLIAM MATTHEW PRIOR (1806-1873). Images of the unsigned painting, which was found in Downeast Maine, were sent to major auction houses in New England and New York City. This unframed 20" by 24" oil on canvas landscape painting is something of a mystery. It is signed "J.V.C." and dated 1851 at lower left (see very close up photos), and on the wood stretcher on the reverse is incised "John V. Cornell New York". I believe there is an excellent possibility that this is a work by the historical New York painter John V. Cornell but I cannot prove it. Oil on canvas, 22" by 18" and 2 1/2" wide frame, unsigned, showing the famous Mountain of the Holy Cross in central Colorado, 100 miles west of Denver and 15 miles from Vail. This is a late 19th century painting, evidently one of many copies, by many artists, of the iconic 7' by 5' work by famous American artist Thomas Moran, which was completed in the year 1875. This is an atmospheric fine little watercolor on paper painting of mountains and water such as might be found in the idyllic Lakes District of the northwestern part of England, or the famed Scottish Highlands, unsigned, late 19th century most likely, measuring 4 1/2" by 6 1/2" (14 1/2" by 17 1/2" in the present framing). A fine 19th century miniature version of Gilbert Stuart's "Lansdowne" portrait, the iconic 1796 life size portrait of George Washington. The painting here is done in watercolor and gouache on organic wafer. From its origin until the present day many copies of the portrait have been made, but very few on ivory.

This 3 1/8" by 2 1/2" example is in excellent condition, with no issues. The 11" by 9 3/4" gilt over gesso frame is period and might be original.
