Painting on board of a kneeling stylized Native American male figure holding ceremonial staff and feathers, 21 3/4" by 23" (28" by 29 1/2" as framed), signed at the lower left by artist RED HAT. This work likely dates to the period between the late 1940's and about 1955 I would guess. The streamlined style reflects the Moderne and Art Deco movements earlier in the century. Painted in watercolor on organic material, with the sitter attired in a black coat, vest, and stock, and sporting a stickpin. In a wood frame with fragments on the back possibly indicating the artist and/or the sitter.

Very good condition with no chips, cracks, bowing, or restoration. Sight size is 2 1/4" by 1 13/16", and the framed size is 3 7/8" by 3 3/8".

Oil on canvas painting of a landscape with trees, a lake and distant mountains, 11 3/4" by 15 3/4", unframed, signed at lower right "Ballon". The work is nicely painted and possibly of French origin. The age would be about circa 1960's/1970's. A standard 12" by 16" frame will make this wall-ready. The condition is excellent.

Nicely framed antique print. Light foxing but more pronounced on the edges. The frame measures 13" x 18". Not examined out of frame-sold as is. "In the French engraving Le Lever after Freudenberg, of the 1780s (illustration, right), gentle social criticism is levelled at the lady of the court; that she slept without unlacing her stays, apparently, perhaps can be seen as artistic licence...

**ONE OF TWO WORKS BY THIS ARTIST IN MY SHOP** This is a mixed media work on paper, (watercolor and gouache) 8 1/2" by 12", 16" by 19 1/2" as framed, signed at lower right in pencil by the artist "J Cl Imbert". The landscape scene includes a few trees and a small river rendered in subdued colors. Thee primary medium is watercolor but there are tiny spots of gouache, and possibly charcoal in the tree branches, and scratching technique. No foxing or damage.

A portrait miniature beautifully painted on organic material. The sitter, M. Roland, is an attractive woman with flowing black hair, a white fichu over a white dress decorated with blue flowers, A wide pink sash completes her attire. This piece was based on the full length portrait of M. Roland done by Jules-Adolphe Goupil, titled "Le dernier Jour de Madame Roland" and shown in the third photo.

This work was acquired at the same time and place as two others that are likely by the same American unknown artist---none signed. A PAIR of unframed oil on canvas works, one a scene of coastal cliffs and waves, 12" by 12", the other featuring a small lake or pond, 11" by 14" (both unframed). They are each signed by the artist, one M. Mahmoudi. I have not located information on the obviously talented artist, who is likely Californian; found in Los Angeles. Condition is excellent. What appear as white speckles in some images are reflections off the varnish and canvas weave.

American regionalist painter Robert Walker (1920 - 1990) painted this study of 3 pears as a watercolor on heavy paper. The seeming simplicity of this work belies a great power of observation and sensitivity of even the most mundane.

This work was done in 1949, during the early years of Walker's career who was born in Alameda, California. His works often soar on the simplicity which made 20th century American justly famous. These pears are shown with defects and all - not glorified -...

A framed and matted etching possibly of the River Seine. There are water stains along the bottom edge of the mat as well as very light foxing; the print also appears to have light foxing around the corners. Stamped A. Delauney del 8c sc in the lower left corner. The picture measures 5-1/4" x 3-1/2"; the frame, 8" x 9-7/8". Not examined out of the frame.

Oil or acrylic painting on canvas, 12" by 16", presently unframed, with notation on stretcher "CORTONA ITALY SEPT. 2007" and a signature that looks like "Mylius". Cortona is a town in Tuscany. The artist I believe was American. His or her style is charmingly primitive/naive. The color harmony is very pleasing, and condition is excellent. I note only a tiny 1/3" slit in cypress tree at left, so minor that I didn't even notice it until I began to wonder why there is a piece of tape on reverse...

A miniature portrait, painted in watercolor on organic wafer, depicting a gentleman with powdered hair, a deep blue jacket, and a white shirt and tie.

The miniature is housed in a period, heavy gilt bronze frame which in and of itself has a good amount of intrinsic value.. Neither the painting nor the frame have any condition issues. Sight size is 2 1/8" by 1 5/8", with a frame size of 5 5/8" by 3 1/4".
