From our African Collection: A Kenyan Woman Figure from East Africa, circa 1980

Young Flute Player is the title of an oil painting by Benedetto Luti from the 1720’s, now in the Hermitage. An earlier version by Luti depicted a young boy in a blue jacket without any instrument. This engraving, made by Victor Marie Picot was published in London in 1780 as Boy and Lute, obviously mixing up the motif and the artist (!). Contributing to this is probably the Walpole family crest having been pushed in between the letters of the title...

Oil on cotton canvas, unframed, 12" by 15 7/8", the scene female figures in a marketplace with their baskets of foodstuffs, signed at lower right center "Getro". This work likely dates to the 1980's or later and is representative of the colorful folk art works produced for tourists by the many talented artists in the country. Condition is good and with a standard 12 by 16 frame added, this would be ready for the wall...

The artist depicts a bird's eye view looking north towards Alcatraz and Marin County beyond, from the top of Nob Hill, on which the Mark Hopkins Hotel so famously sits...

Fabulous miniature painting on depicting Red Fort, in-cased in intricately carved frame, no visible signature and I believe the item has been painted by European artist. Size: The ivory plaque is 1 7/8" x 2 3/8" housed in the 5 3/8" x 4 3/8" frame. Condition Report: Absolutely excellent condition.

Contemporary pencil and watercolor drawing in simple metal gold framing, the subject two women apparently dancing in a late 19th century cafe, the drawing 8 1/2" by 5 1/4" inside the mat (the entire sheet significantly larger, at 11 3/4" by 8 1/4"), signed at lower right "Dan" or "Han" or similar. The scene reminds of George Grosz' 1920's drawings of Berlin cafe goers, or even Toulouse Lautrec's Parisian cafe's. The drawing is nicely crafted.

This color aquatint by Luigi Kasimir measures 17 3/4 x 15 inches, pencil signed, plated dated 1925, cat: Lorenz-5. Kasimir studied at the Vienna Academy of Art, although much of his etching technique was self taught and learned through working from nature. He specialized in atmospheric images of architecture, city scenes and landscapes; some bustling with people and automobiles, others quite timeless and serene.

A poster for the February 1992 Aspen Art Museum exhibition of the works of the highly regarded American contemporary artist, FRANK STELLA (1936-2024), measuring 34" by 23". The image is of a 1990 painted aluminum sculpture that was included in the exhibition. Stella hand signed the poster with blue felt tip marker at lower right.
