Three oil still life works on canvas by the same hand, each signed "G. Gillson", circa late 20th century, all painted in an earlier style. Measurements are 12" by 16" and 9" by 12", and frames 1 3/4" wide on a side. I do not see a listing for an artist by this name. These are nicely painted and will complement your traditional interior. The dark, wood frames have some scratches and you might want to replace them with gold, which would dramatically improve the overall presentation...
Pencil signed at lower right, numbered 201/250 at lower left, is this circa 1975 modern print by the noted listed Israeli-born (Haifa), French artist who also worked in America, NISSAN ENGEL (1931-). The work measures 20" by 15" in its silvery metallic framing. The colors do not seem to be faded, though there is rippling in the paper visible in most of the margins, likely from exposure to a damp environment. There is no mold however...
An unusual family grouping of three miniature portraits on organic wafers. All pieces, clearly done by the same hand (as yet unidentified), have a wonderful "feel" to them and are cleanly executed. The reverend in his black non-liturgical clothing, his wife in her black dress with white lace and cap, and their beautiful daughter, posed beside a tree and attired in a high-waisted gown with a blue ribbon and wearing a tortoiseshell comb in her hair, are set against a blue sky background...
A beautiful antique oil painting by T. Walter of a French landscape titled "Autumn in the Ccvennes" a mountain range in the south central France. 19th century signed lower left oil on canvas. Presented in a the original magnificent antique gold leaf frame.
Frame 39.5 X 34.25 canvas size 28.75 X 22 in
Oil on canvas painting of white and pink roses in a blue bowl, signed at lower right "Strachan". The work, measuring 18" by 24" and 23" by 28 1/2" in likely original frame, has tiny losses in background and lower left area. The frame also has light wear, and losses on back of left edge. Overall, a very shabby chic piece in feeling. There is an old Los Angeles framer's sticker on reverse backing.
(One of two works by the artist in my shop), a watercolor on paper, 9 3/8" by 13 1/4" (17" by 21" as framed), signed in English at lower left, titled on reverse with what looks like "Lake Wobegone" (and $100 original price) and dated "43", by noted, well listed Jewish American artist ELIAS NEWMAN (1903-1999). Newman was born in Poland but was in the US as a boy...
A portrait miniature of a young and handsome man unabashedly directly facing the viewer. He is dressed in the height of fashion, wearing a black jacket, light orange cravat (which nicely matches his hair), and a white vest. Presented in a gilt cast foliate case, the reverse of which features a glazed tightly woven field of plaited hair.
Because of the convex glass, the photos unfortunately show reflections, white streaks, dots, and shadows, none of which are in the miniature...
Original etching by Jacques Callot LE MASSACRE DES INNOCENTS printed in 1618 in Florence, powerful violent biblical scene represented in a European city setting. Lieure catalog number 278, second state of two, excellent impression of this important print. In excellent condition, framed and glazed, not examined outside of frame. A hand colored lithograph of the interior of a Damascus house showing a cistern below a very high ceiled room surrounded by arches and a relatively small doorway to the outside on the opposite side of the point of view. Men in both robes and trousers fez and keffiyeh in various attitudes occupy the foreground and a servant (?) enters near the outside door.
The lithograph surrounded by a thin line with the printed information: “R CLIVE DELT.” (lower left)...

Fine German Oil Portrait Circa 1880 Measuring 12x10” Done in Bavaria unsigned in a gold leaf frame measuring 17x16” work is signed lower left
Original oil on canvas attributed to Lillian Genth (American, 1876-1953), early 20th Century. This painting measures roughly 42" by 31" in its frame. It is initialed L.G. upper right, and interestingly enough inscribed "Nelson" (for George Laurence Nelson, with whom she painted in Connecticut) on the back. From the collection of Robert Austin, author of "Artists of the Litchfield Hills". This painting is in excellent condition.
Circa 1870's watercolor, in Victorian or turn of the century gold frame, signed at lower left. Signed by an apparently little known artist, Carl H. Schmidt. The watercolor measures 9 1/2" by 13 1/4" (21" by 24 1/2" framed). The scenery portrayed is perhaps in the Northeast states. When I originally acquired this item, it was with a watercolor of Florida (copied from a Currier and Ives print), signed by the same artist. That piece, of the same age as this, was sold separately.

Oil on canvas, 12" by 18" (15" by 21" as framed), the subject a subtly rendered impressionist scene of large trees by a wide river, with just scant human activity present in the form of a few figures in a tiny boat in the middle distance, and a structure on the far shore. Executed in a silvery, cool palette of grays, tans and greens, this is a typical work of the well listed Scottish artist ROBERT RUSSELL MACNEE (1880-1952)...
A vintage, circa 1940 lithograph print of a man's head, pencil signed at lower right margin "Barsick" and "imp." appears in pencil at lower center (meaning, artist printed it himself/herself). I do not see an obvious listed artist with which this signature might correspond. The piece measures 13 1/4" by 10 1/4" inside the mat and 17 1/2" by 14 3/4" in simple black strip frame. There is significant heavy foxing in the margins which could be minimized with new mat...
A beautiful work measuring 21” x 22” on fine Chinese paper, mounted and matted in a wonderful Lacquer frame by Chinese American Artist G. Sol
A contemporary original watercolor painting dated 2009, the subject very much a fantasy summary of the Peruvian Andes----including whitewashed old colonial buildings and stone foot bridges, traditional garb, bowler-hat wearing women carrying their babies on their backs, and the quintessential llamas of the region. The work, measuring 9 1/2" by 13 1/2" (20" by 24" in interesting dark faux bamboo frame) is signed at lower right "E Garces '09/Cusco Peru"...

Oil on board painting of four wild horses in a corral under an immense western American sky, 17 1/2" by 21 1/2" framed, signed at lower right by American artist GRACE LORING BASSETT. There is some mention of the artist on the internet, most specifically as an illustrator in 1915 of a "Black Beauty" type book called "Don: His Recollections", a work about a horse, intended for children. There is also an auction history of a painting of a black spaniel, and internet research shows a Grace Loring...
An extremely powerful portrait attributed to Jeremiah Paul Jr., though it is possible that Benjamin Trott was the artist. In any case, due to the technique and strong features of the sitter, the painting has an immediate impact on the viewer and was done by a highly skilled artist.
The overall condition of the painting is excellent, as is the case, The size is 2 7/8" by 2 1/4". Please note that the first photo is an accurate depiction of the miniature, and the second photo, which has all man...
A fine color gouache landscape drawing in the Old Master 17th century style, the imagery including feathery trees, old classical buildings, a roaring river, mountains, and two tiny figures at center. There is no signature though on the old backing in an old hand someone wrote "Claude" (an acknowledged and widely recognized reference to Claude Le Gellee Lorrain (c. 1600-1682), a highly important French classic master of such scenery). The drawing is on paper laid on other antique paper, and the...
