Watercolor painting of a harbor, probably Maine, signed at lower right corner by artist M. Matheson and titled in pencil on the reverse, appropriately, "Quiet Harbor" (with original $35.00 price). The work, on heavy watercolor paper, measures 15 1/2" by 22 1/2". It having slid down under the mat due to the old tape losing its grip, I removed this from the mat and frame, which are (possibly) available at no extra charge. An early (early 20th century) unframed watercolor of the brick buildings of San Francisco's Chinatown, unsigned, 11 1/2" by 7 1/2", from the collection of a longtime San Francisco art dealer. The work includes a number of figures in traditional Chinese clothing, along with the ornamental grillwork of some balconies overlooking the street in these post-Gold Rush buildings. A vintage impressionist oil on canvas painting of a sunny fenced meadow, signed with initials "FB" at lower right, 10" by 14" (14 1/4" by 18 1/4" framed). The work came from a German-American family which had brought much art from the old country, suggesting a European origin. The painting is pleasant and easy to live with. A cleaning to remove light surface dirt would be beneficial, as would a new gold frame, the present wood one not flattering to the work.

Colorful contemporary Central American or Brazilian landscape painting of a hillside village with figures, animals, tropical vegetation and a church, 7 1/2" by 10 3/4" (15 1/4" by 18 1/2" framed), signed at lower left with what appears as "Mitaki". A print of Pierre-Auguste Renoir's 1889 painting "A Young Girl with Daisies", 9 1/2 by 7 1/2" (18" by 16" in the attractive wood frame). The print is very glossy, as made---giving the impression of being on porcelain, or made as an enamel. The frame is likely of Mexican origin and is hand carved and gilded, making for an attractive combination. A work for the Renoir fan who cannot quite afford the real deal at a Sotheby's auction.
