A most elegant, sophisticated, eye-catching composition in shades of primarily yellow and some tan, along with abundant white, circa 1970's I am thinking, signed at upper right "Lopes" or "Lopez". The possibly Latin American work is somewhat of a mystery as a search of listed artists by these names does not appear to yield an obvious match; and also the media used are uncertain, possibly water-based gouache or tempera, with some sand or other granular material employed to give an interesting te...

The painting measures 8X7 inches, it came to us in a period gilt frame which measures 12 1/2X11 1/2 inches. Expertly painted, this is a fine example of 19th century American portraiture.
Painting on board of a kneeling stylized Native American male figure holding ceremonial staff and feathers, 21 3/4" by 23" (28" by 29 1/2" as framed), signed at the lower left by artist RED HAT. This work likely dates to the period between the late 1940's and about 1955 I would guess. The streamlined style reflects the Moderne and Art Deco movements earlier in the century. I do not see information on the artist. The imagery and intense color is all striking, and would add a dramatic touch to...
