A well painted portrait miniature, on organic wafer, of a blue eyed gentleman wearing a deep blue coat, white ascot, shirt, and vest. Presented in a brass frame.
The condition is excellent, with no issues to speak of. The reddish area on the edge from 9:00 to 12:00 is due to light reflection. The painting appears much better in person than the photo shows. Framed size is 2 1/2" by 2".
Oil on board, 20" by 24" and frame 2 3/4" wide, signed in the paint at lower right "H. YOSHIZUMI" and dated there "57". Titled on two labels "Monterey Wharf", this is a striking, impressionist yet modern painting by a talented artist who was born in nearby Watsonville of Japanese ancestry. Yoshizumi was incarcerated during World War II at the Poston, Arizona internment camp. Many net references discuss the art he was able to produce while there, depicting his grim and alien surroundings...

Fine old 19th century watercolor painting of a cavalier-type figure and a woman trying the new batch of wine as it comes from the cask, a friendly dog lazing at right. The painting measures 10 1/4" by 13 1/2" inside the mat, (presently essentially unframed, the frame is in poor condition and is very inexpensive to begin with), signed at lower right by artist Gamba da Vinza. I have researched the name and do not find a listing for this artist, who was obviously well trained...

Oil on canvas, 14" by 22", (17" by 25" as framed), signed in red at lower right near the edge of the frame "F. C. Bromley". This is a beautiful work straddling the Hudson River School and the Tonalism that marked the late 19th and earliest years of the 20th century. The artist died at a very early age, and as a result his works are not plentiful. He spent most of his short life in the Midwest, having been born in Wisconsin and died in Ohio; he is most closely associated with Illinois...

Maki’s Big Reds—an appellation which my late husband Daniel Tretiak gave to Maki’s large, red designs (usually kanji) on black backgrounds—are well-represented by this ox, a subject Maki did many times. An artist’s proof (A.P.), it measures 16in x 21.75in.
Accurately depicted paining on canvas of Sri Nathji. 60x60 cm. currently framed under glass.

The body is composed of two phoenixes, the heads of the birds naturally forming the handles. The stone is very hard, green speckled with translucent white. The cover is also formed of 2 birds, it is not pierced so it is possible that it is not a censer, although it can be used without a cover. It is placed on a finely carved hardwood base. There are some numbers stamped inside, probably so as not to mix up the bases. China 20th century around the 70s. Good condition...
Original American signed floral oil painting on stretched canvas of a grouping of phalaenopsis orchids, one taking center stage against a dark background that when the right light hits it at the right angle, you can see a dark phalo blue green appear. A superb miniature portrait, done en grisaille on organic substrate, by Samuel Andrews. The sitter is an attractive woman with an elaborate wig and hair style, and wearing a cap and gold earrings. An extremely well painted American miniature portrait of a young boy wearing a black coat, white shirt and cravat. He is posed in front of a red drapery. Rather than being done as these miniatures usually were, in watercolor on ivory, this is a far rarer oil on copper example.
The painting is in excellent condition, and has just a slight bit of rubbing at a couple of spots where it meets the period stamped brass frame. Sight size is 2 5/16" by 1 7/8", while the framed size is 2 3/4" by 2...

A large etching titled, “Veduta della Gran Curia Innocenziana,” (View of the Palazzo di Monetcitorio) part of Giovanni Battista Piranesi’s folio of Views of Rome, first published in 1752. The etchings were often reproduced, but this one has both the correct heavy laid paper with appropriate watermark and the center crease where it was folded into the original folio. It has good margins beyond the plate mark. Sheet size 21 ¼ x 29 ¾ inches (54 x 75.4 cm). Image (to plate marks) 15 7/8 x ...
This is a very well-painted miniature depicting a courtly scene of a nobleman and his companion on the terrace of a palace. Although Mughal in style, I am not 100% convinced that the painting is indeed of the period. For that reason, I am listing it as decorative only and have priced it accordingly. The trellised outer border which surrounds the painting itself is embellished with what appears to be metallic silver highlights. The painted area within the trellised frame measures 4-1/4" X 8". Ove...
This is a relatively modern Buddhist painting, done entirely by hand, depicting Lhamo, a Buddhist protector deity. Exceptionally well painted, as the photos will show, this painting was most probably done in Nepal. The painting itself, excluding the cloth "mount," measures 16" X 21". Given the quality of the painting, my sense is that even though relatively modern, the piece was in fact intended for devotional purposes and not as an item of trade. In exceptional condition, complete with the orig...

A guaranteed **ORIGINAL** vintage 1974 watercolor painting, not a print or reproduction of any kind (as often encountered), by the noted painter of musicians and jazz, LEO MEIERSDORFF (1934-1994). The work, on paper, measures 15" by 17 3/4" (22" by 24 1/2" in metal frame, no glass). The painting's colors remain brilliant after fifty years. Meiersdorff led an interesting life. Born in Berlin, between the wars, he showed an early desire to work in the arts. By the late 1950's and early 1960's ...

Haku Maki did some purely white prints—some had a small splash of color, others had none. This one, 81-3, offers three white plump persimmons. Persimmons were an oft-used subject, sometimes a single depiction of the fruit, sometimes two, but very rarely three persimmons and even more rarely done only in white. The print measures 9.5in W x 10.75in H and is in excellent condition. An edition of 130, this one is number 90.

Striking modern painting on masonite panel, signed on the reverse "Kalamaras --72", likely tempera, the image difficult to describe: the viewer appears to be looking out of a green-framed two pane window at a neighboring house with reddish wall, sloping roof line, and a wooden-looking door-like window.......well, it IS difficult to describe. The work measures 19 1/2" by 15 1/2" inside the frame; inside the green outlines of the "window" the size is 14" by 9 3/4". This is by California contemp...
