Domenico Ghirlandaio, Italian, 1449-1494, Florence. Oil on panel in sepia tones. He lived when the Italian Renaissance was gathering speed and producing an astonishing succession of painters of genius. "Now that I have begun to get into the spirit of this art, I wish they would give me the walls of Florence to paint the whole circuit with stories." This is said to be Ghirlandaio's reaction to painting.popes, princes and members of the newly flourishing class of merchants...
This small carved two tone agate snuff bottle is 2 5/8” high, 1 ¼” wide and 5/8” thick. The artist used two darker spots to carve as two fish. This makes the double gourd shape snuff bottle unique. It is very well hallowed, polished and in great condition.
Done in the manner of Alexej Georgewitsch von Jawlensky (Russian: Алексе́й Гео́ргиевич Явле́нский, romanized: Alekséy Geórgiyevich Yavlénskiy) (13 March 1864 – 15 March 1941), surname also spelt as Yavlensky,[1] was a Russian expressionist painter active in Germany. He was a key member of the New Munich Artist's Association (Neue Künstlervereinigung München), Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) group and later the Die Blaue Vier (The Blue Four). Wikipedia
Pastel on paper laid on board, the subject fruits and a porcelain cup on a tabletop, a vase with at top center, 20" by 15 1/2" (27" by 23" as framed), signed at lower right "Olds" (MARION VALE OLDS 1901-1993). The work is a fine example by this talented woman artist, the cramped artistic space and carefully thought-out arrangement of the objects in that space indicative of an artist of great talent who is taking from Cezanne as well as the WPA (I would guess the age as circa 1930's or 1940's)...
Original drawing in sanguine pencil and watercolor, 16" by 11 1/2" (25 1/2" by 18" framed), the subject traditional shoes, a ceramic pot, and textile, signed at lower right by Hopi artist S. POLELONEMA. This would have been created in the Four Corners region, the name being somewhat common among the peoples of the area in Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico particularly. An Otis Polelonema is a well known Native American artist, though I don't know if the present artist might be a relative...

A 19thC framed watercolour picture of a child 1860-80. This late Victorian period unsigned framed water color on paper is a piece of early memorial folk art and it was possibly made by a family member as a reminder of a deceased child, with typical muted colours and austere pose. This Victorian picture is a lovingly made piece, most likely a memorial painting, with a hand-cut deep red velvet mat, a gilt paper mount from a photo-album page and a black and gilt frame with applied brass Coptic cro...

Oil on board, 21" by 31" (27" by 37" framed), unsigned, the view late autumn or early winter in high western mountains, snow already on the ground and peaks but brown leaves still holding on to a few trees. The work is really very nicely done and I believe it quite likely that the artist is listed, but unfortunately it is just not signed. The painting likely dates to about the 1950's or early 1960's at latest. Colors are harmonious, reflections are painted masterfully, and overall it's just a...

A well executed oil on wood panel still life of yellow roses, green grapes, goblets, glasses, decanter and candle stick on a table cloth, signed illegibly at lower right (appears as "Hans Meh...." or similar), circa 1890. The work measures 21 1/2" by 28" and the panel is 1/2" in thickness. The signature certainly appears to be European. I have tried and tried again to make it out but have not succeeded. It might well be German, or even Hungarian I am thinking, there being a strong tradition ...

20th century Chinese carved lapis fisherman. Minor chip on the tail of the fish. H: 6 ¾ inches
Old print of what I believe are camellias, 10 1/2" by 8 1/2" inside the mat with hand-drawn outlines, 15 1/4" by 13" in what is now (but might not have been originally) a convincingly distressed gold frame, with hand coloring delicately applied. At upper right near the mat is "Pl." and a number so this was no doubt a plate from a book on botany. The item was probably framed in the early 1960's. There is some water staining of the very lowest portion of the mat. If you want to keep the lines ...

Hurd was born in New Mexico and attended military academy there before realizing he wanted to becom...

Oil or acrylic on canvasboard abstract painting, larger sized, at 28" by 40" as framed, signed at lower left "KAYE". The art takes after any number of modern painters' work, but the arrows imagery at the bottom portion, suggests to me a bit of Uruguayan painter Joaquin Torres Garcia. The creator of this work (and two others by the same artist I have listed) was probably a talented amateur with an excellent sense of color and a knowledge of modern art. Condition is good. A more elaborate fra...
An original 19th century hand-colored lithograph print, "Tallulah Falls--Georgia", by the noted Currier & Ives firm, unframed, the sheet 10" by 13 3/4". Tallulah Falls is a scenic location in far northeast Georgia's mountains, now a part of Tallulah Gorge State Park. This print retains its rich hand coloring. Oil on wood panel still life painting of wilting yellow roses in a bluish-green vase on a brown vaguely defined table top, signed at lower right by artist M. Verberckmoes and dated there 1902. There does not appear to be a listing for this particular artist but the name is Belgian in origin. The work, 12" by 16 1/2" (19" by 24" in frame) could use a light cleaning, as there is surface dirt throughout, and there are some surface abrasions that show as white areas in the photos. In addition the...
Watercolor on paper laid on board painting of roses and hollyhocks in an intimate garden enclosed by a wall or structure, 16 1/4" by 13" and 1 1/4" wide frame, unsigned, executed late 19th or early 20th century. The artist's mastery of watercolor is clear, but unfortunately he or she failed to sign the work, which resembles paintings by members of the Stannard family of watercolorists (Henry John Sylvester 1870-1951, Lilian 1877-1944, Theresa 1898-1947). An experienced English art dealer, havi...
