Gouache and watercolor on paper drawing, 11" by 8 1/2", in metal framing, no glass, signed at bottom right possibly "LEE" and perhaps a date "41" or "47" after that. The framing was done in the Seattle area (see sticker), and putting the style together with that framing information, I feel that perhaps this might be by an artist working in the Mark Tobey school in the Northwest, but this is speculation. The work certainly resembles Mark Tobey's work in many respects...

Signed at lower right "PURWADI" and dated just above it 1998, this is a 17" by 14 1/4" work on heavy paper or paper laid on heavy paper, unframed, the subject two Asian women identically dressed, viewed from behind, carrying a heavy load on their heads. This vintage exquisite bronze sculpture of an elegant female figure wearing a draped dress and long slender arms is holding a parrot with long curved tail feather. By the noted Indiana artist WILLIAM A. EYDEN (1893-1982), an unusually good work in watercolor and gouache, featuring the beech trees associated with the Indiana landscape. The partially denuded forest is shown in late autumn, waiting for winter's arrival. Some leaves still cling to the trees in a chill wind we can nearly feel. The painting measures 17 3/4" by 23 1/2" (24" by 29 1/2" as framed)...

An unusually beautiful and impressive example of Vietnamese lacquer painting, an art form that goes back many centuries in China and Southeast Asia. The technical process is very complex, involving application of multiple layers. This panel, unframed, measures 15 1/2" by 23 1/4" and it is not signed. Note the gold showing through in many areas, and the detail of the figures and general atmosphere and luminosity created by the artist in a notoriously difficult medium.

This is a painting on artist board, 22" by 14" inside its narrow modern framing, titled on the reverse in ball point pen "Avocado Tree", signed at lower right "Harry Lieberman" and dated there "62". HARRY LIEBERMAN (1876-1983) was a Polish-born, long-lived artist who didn't begin his artistic career until late in life. Lieberman had been preparing for the rabbinate but emigrated to the United States in 1906 when nearly thirty (some give his date of birth as 1880 rather than 1876)...

Indonesian drawing of three seated figures conversing at a marketplace, three white chickens offered up for sale, painted circa late 1950's or early 1960's I believe, apparently unsigned, 12" by 16 1/4" inside the mat, 17" by 21 1/4" as framed. There is an old Rotterdam, Netherlands framer's sticker on the reverse. The art somewhat reminds of the work of the important Dutch/Indonesian master artist Rudolf Bonnet (1895-1978) but I do not believe the work by him...

Watercolor and ink drawing of a river landscape with ship, bridge and surrounding terrain, 7 1/2" by 9 1/2" (14 1/2" by 16 3/4" in interesting old gold frame), signed at lower left by noted Russian-born American artist JOHN WENGER (1887-1976). The artist was born in Russia, his father a local artist. The young man showed early talent and he was accepted into the Imperial Art Academy on scholarship...

A complex mixed media drawing, in the style of Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944), featuring geometric shapes and forms, measuring 7 1/2" by 11 3/4" inside the mat opening (17" in 21" in frame). The drawing is created with graphite, watercolor, gouache and perhaps pastel crayon. The detail is tight and finished. A very decorative work with color and form, sure to be a conversation piece.

Pen and ink on paper drawing of three nude women in an interior, 10 1/2" by 7 1/4" inside the mat (18" by 14" as framed), signed at lower right "Michonze" and dated there "58". This is a work of the talented, interesting artist GREGOIRE MICHONZE (known early in life as Michonznic). The artist has displayed his mastery of line as his flickering pen created a work that is possibly a study but which is complete in and of itself...

In the style of an artist like Stark Davis is this 15 1/2" by 19 1/2" gouache painting, gold paint used for the background to the parrot and vegetation, possibly oleander, the work signed at lower left "O. Schroeter". This is a work dating to about the late 1930's to about 1950, by listed artist OTTO FELIX SCHROETER (born circa 1880 in Germany, died circa 1965 in California)...

A fine mixed media study drawing in charcoal and white gouache of a soldier seemingly leaning against a wagon wheel, 10 1/4" by 7 5/8" inside the present mat (the sheet only very slightly larger), and 22 1/2" by 18 1/2" in gold frame with hand drawn lines), titled "Bataille de l'Alma"on the mat, signed with an impressed/embossed signature "I PILS" at lower right. An unusual, elegant "embossed relief" print on heavy grayish-tan earth-tone hand-made paper that appears almost like tooled leather, or parchment, featuring in the design organic forms such as leaves, signed at lower right in Chinese characters and in Roman letters by the artist, HA BICK CHUEN (1925-2009) (also known as XIA BIQUAN).
