An opportunity to acquire an original oil on canvas painting by a very highly esteemed twentieth century California artist, the works of whom have exceeded $50,000 at auction. This work is signed at lower right by California twentieth century artist ROGER KUNTZ (1926-1975). The subject is apparently a coastline with abstracted trees and houses next to a dark blue sea. The work itself measures 12" by 16" (17 1/2" by 21 1/2" in a quality frame by Munn, a respected old La Cienega Boulevard framer)...

Oil on canvas impressionist seascape painting of green waves breaking on a beach, 12" by 24" (17 3/4" by 29 1/2" framed), signed on overlap "D. W. Parshall '95". This is a work by a Buffalo-born artist, DeWitt Parshall (1864-1956) who is today best known as a California painter from the Santa Barbara area...

Oil on board painting of colorful flowers in a blue ceramic vessel on a tabletop, 20" by 26" (26 1/2" by 32 1/2" as framed), apparently unsigned, the work dating to probably the years around 1930. There is an old crack at upper right as shown, not especially visible to the casual viewer, and I note some flaking and unstable paint in the lower 1/4 of the painting (see bright yellow underpaint showing through----ask for more detailed photos of this).

Oil on canvas painting of famous Morro Rock, the 500 foot high landmark and sentinel that for time immemorial has guarded the harbor at Morro Bay on the coast of central California. The work is titled on the stretcher "August Sunset by Marjorie Sharpe". Beautifully painted, the artist has captured the wispy clouds that cling to the top of the rock and the reflections of the fishing boats...

A turn of the century oil of red roses, signed at lower right "Myrtle Crittenden". There is a "Miss M. Crittenden" listed in Hughes' dictionary of California artists, and she was noted there to have exhibited at the California state fair in 1881. This painting came out of the Sacramento area, so, that makes sense. Not dated but likely dates to early 20th century when such works were still especially popular, as they had since Victorian times...

Oil on canvas, 8" by 10" and 1" wide frame, the subject a classic plein air landscape of the low desert. It is signed "Geraldine" at lower right, and on reverse is the inscription "To Dad Happy Anniversary from Mom". The painter was talented but no doubt still an amateur. This is a pleasant decorative painting that is ready to hang on the wall.

Beautifully executed by an unknown but obviously talented artist is this 10" by 8" oil on canvas of a seated woman draped in fabric, against a darker drape background. The work is contemporary. It was found unframed and for illustration purposes I have "married" it to a frame that somewhat fits it, however, the frame is marginally unsuitable because it is a bit shallow for an oil painting's stretcher...

Circa 1940's or 1950's oil on canvas, 25" by 30", (33" by 38" as framed), the subject a vase with pink and white flowers, some blue cornflowers at lower left in front of an open oriental fan, the entire scene suffused with a pinkish, mid-century light. The painting is signed at lower right by the Who Was Who in American Art-listed JOSEPH LANE (1900-), an artist and muralist who trained at the Art Institute of Chicago...

Oil on masonite, 18" by 14" (22" by 18" in its wood frame), the subject the familiar streets of the French Quarter, this being a view of Pirate's Alley, from Jackson Square, facing Royal Street, signed at lower right "Weller". I take from the website of the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts: "Dell Weller studied four years at the Art Students League in New York. After two years of study in Mexico, he returned to New Orleans. He developed a widespread reputation for his wildlife etchings...

Nan attended the Grand Central Art School co-founded by her father, and received instruction from the likes of Arshile Gorky, Wayman Adams and Jerry Farnsworth, as well as from her father...

Oil on canvas painting of waves breaking on the beach at sunset, (titled on reverse "Fading Sun"), measuring 16" by 20" unframed, signed at lower right by artist CARYL WOOD, the wife of famed landscape painter Robert Wood. Caryl was an amateur painter when she met the already famous Robert Wood in 1953 after he sustained serious injuries when hit by a car on Pacific Coast Highway. The couple married and Robert instructed her in painting, taking her along on painting trips...

Oil on masonite panel painting of the desert, 12" by 9", signed in capital letters at lower left by listed southwestern artist BILL SHADDIX (1931-). The presence of the iconic saguaro cactus places the scene as east of the Colorado River, therefore in Arizona. Shaddix was born in Oklahoma during the Dust Bowl, and emigrated to California by the early 1940's with his family. A deputy sheriff in Orange County by 1956, he began to paint, and eventually turned full time to his fine art...

Oil on canvas painting of a tawny autumn landscape,15 3/4 " by 20 3/4" (20 3/4" by 25" framed), not signed on the front, but bearing a tattered label with an apparent name beginning with "Eve..", and dedicated on the reverse of the canvas in 1933...

Oil on canvasboard, 16" by 12" (19 1/2" by 15 1/2" as framed), the subject trees in flaming autumn colors along a quiet dirt forest road, signed at lower right "P.L. King", no date but likely circa late 1940's or 1950's. For a time I had thought it possible that this was a work of the noted American impressionist PAUL KING (1867-1947) but I no longer believe that to be the case, so I am offering it as simply an interesting impressionistic landscape. The painting is in a gold frame and could h...

A PAIR of paintings on canvas, each featuring hanging game birds after the hunt, each 20" by 16", unframed, each signed by the well-known American western artist HENRY H. CROSS (1837-1918). The use of green painted wood panel background suggests the artist was familiar with the artist William Harnett and his style. Cross was born in New York state and became well known in the 19th century as a painter of portraits of Native American luminaries of the time. He also knew how to paint animals, h...

Oil on canvas, 27" by 30" (33" by 36" as framed), the subject the roiling waves, a headland visible in the distance, signed at lower right and, I think, dated there "40", by well listed American artist and illustrator FREDERIC TELLANDER (1878-1977). This is a good-sized work, offered most definitely in as-is condition. It has suffered from the ravages of time and neglect, there being quite a few losses of paint, showing in photos are white areas, and there is craquelure, unstable areas, and ju...

Oil on canvas, 24" by 36" (28 1/2" by 42" as framed), unsigned, showing a Victorian/Gothic type castle ruin by a river, by moonlight. ***UNFORTUNATELY THE PAINTING HAS BEEN SEVERELY DAMAGED IN SHIPPING (vertical rip clear through---started with a pre-existing three inch tear which weakened the canvas and made it vulnerable to further damage), so, will need major restoration. Call or email me for more details. **THE ANTIQUE GOLD FRAME HAS VALUE IN AND OF ITSELF***, should you choose to focus on...

Oil on rectangular canvas overlain by an oval frame, 6 1/2" by 9 1/4", (10 3/4" by 12 3/4" as framed), apparently signed by amateur artist "Jennifer" at bottom center below the frame line, circa 1970's or 1980's, the subject ducks flying above a marsh. On the stretcher is written "Canvas Backs". The artist certainly had some talent. If you are a duck hunter or charter member of Ducks Unlimited, you must own this work...........or some of the other duck-related original art currently in my sho...
