A rare and powerful painting directly on a rather crude wood panel, unframed, 16 3/4" by 23 3/4", by the important twentieth century Peruvian artist ALICIA BUSTAMANTE VERNAL (1907-1968), featuring a group of native people climbing in the bleak mountain landscape, the forward group carrying a shrouded body for burial. The work is titled on the reverse "El Entierro" (The Interment/Burial"), and is dated there 1954, with additional notation "Ayacucho" (the Peruvian city)...

A most unusual modern painting----oil and sand on canvas, 48" by 32" including the frame, which, painted on all edges, can be considered an integral part of the work. The subject is most impressively complex---abstract yet suggestive of perhaps a central fish, or primitive ethnographic art imagery....all in a controlled palette of gray, muted rust red, white, black, and a touch of yellow...
Oil on canvas painting of a young woman knitting on a grassy slope in a glade, 25" by 18", 32" by 25" framed, signed at lower right in red by a talented, though little-known, apparently Argentine painter who worked in the early years of the twentieth century, A. MORENO DE TORRES. This is a fine work by a very skilled hand. Were it by a better-known artist, the price would be multiples higher...
Large original portrait oil painting on canvas by Harry Elsas (Heinz Hugo Erich Elsas, Brazil, born in Germany, 1925-1994). Harry Elsas' family fled Nazism in 1936. Signed L.R.
As suggested by the contradictory title "colorful vintage folk art painting....by Brazilian modernist", this is a very unusual, difficult-to-describe, interesting oil on canvas painting of Christ on the cross, the background a complex mix of bright primary color and modernist forms, signed at lower right by artist "Edelweiss". On the stretcher is written apparently in Portuguese, "Cobia alada da guita" or similar, along with the original $1520 USD price...

A most elegant, sophisticated, eye-catching composition in shades of primarily yellow and some tan, along with abundant white, circa 1970's I am thinking, signed at upper right "Lopes" or "Lopez"...
Oil on canvas of two horses eating cut greens with chickens pecking the earth nearby in a clean but slightly rundown curral (farmyard) under bright sunlight and with bright red blossoming tree behind the horses losing some blossoms. A painting of the famous Andes mountain and lake resort of Bariloche in central Argentina, oil on canvas, 22" by 29", unframed, signed "MA" at lower right and "M. C. Alsina" on stretcher, circa 1960. The work is dusty and could benefit from a cleaning to remove foxing in the sky, and has some paint losses that can be easily restored (scratch at left and lower extreme corner). The deep blue of the sky against the gray of the mountains and lake makes for an elegant and satisfying color pairing. ...
This is an OIL ON CANVAS, SOUTH AMERICAN VILLAGE SCENE. The work is Very Colorful and has the
Primitive feeling. Size is 12 1/2" X 16 1/2" with the Gilded Frame. Signed (looks like) P. Gatinna LR. From a Virginia Estate date this OIL PAINTING circa 1925 or third 1/4 of the 20th Century. A Most Attractive OIL on CANVAS.
An unframed oil on canvas painting of a dreamy waterfall, the deep and mysterious gorge featuring palm trees and at left a small flower-bedecked modest home, the 24" by 18" work signed at lower right "Carolyn". Condition is excellent, the work needing only a frame. The rendering of the palms reminds a bit of the way Filipino artist Romeo Tabuena painted such scenes.
Colorful contemporary Central American or Brazilian landscape painting of a hillside village with figures, animals, tropical vegetation and a church, 7 1/2" by 10 3/4" (15 1/4" by 18 1/2" framed), signed at lower left with what appears as "Mitaki". The work is highly decorative and in excellent, wall-ready condition. Considering the architecture, landscape, and black-appearing tiny figures, I would lean towards the work being of perhaps northeast Brazilian origin, (Natal or Salvador area).
