The work is mixed media (gouache and perhaps some thinned oil) on card, and measures 10 1/2" by 7 1/4" (24" by 18 1/2" in an interesting burl laminate frame). For years, I have seen these gouache paintings of cockatoos, in the Art Deco style, circulating around Southern California, but I didn't know the identity of the artist, as there seemed to be no listing. Now, with his death in 2012, there is some information online. This drawing is 23" by 17" (28 1/2" by 22 1/2" framed), signed at lower left center in the image, by former child actor-turned artist BILLY SEAY (1922-2012). By the noted illustrator artist RICHARD STINE (1941-) this is a rarely seen original painting, the subject a tree in a strangely empty landscape. The work, measuring 12 1/2" by 9 1/2" in wood strip frame, is painted in gouache, either on the smooth side of a masonite panel, or on heavy paper or board subsequently laid to the masonite. A detailed gouache painting of two female and one male figure in a green landscape with trees and flowers, 9 1/2" by 7 1/2" (13 1/2" by 11 1/2" in gold framing), painted in the centuries-old traditional style of the Indo-Persian School, but contemporary. The condition is excellent and this is a very decorative piece. The amount of work involved to create such a detailed image is stupendous---though the market undervalues the handiwork.

A view of Ely Cathedral in eastern England, signed at lower right by listed contemporary British artist KENNETH W. A superb gouache drawing of a Navajo rider and two horses in a red Southwest landscape, signed at lower right by the noted Navajo artist, JUSTIN TSO (1948-). The 11 5/8" by 10 1/4" drawing is double matted, (18" by 16 1/2" framed), the mat shape rather complex and interesting. Tso is known since the early 1980's for his stylized drawings of the Navajo people, their prized horses, and their unique dramatic landscape...

Gouache on paper drawing of a Baltimore Oriole and a blue jay, 12 1/2" by 16" (23 3/4" by 28" framed), signed at lower right by the noted Disney illustrator AUGUST CURLEY LENOX (1908-1986). This is a really nicely executed work, in the style of an illustrator like Lynn Bogue Hunt or William Schaldach or Rex Brasher. Colors are vivid and the realism is such that the viewer can almost "hear" these birds. I suppose it could have been executed as a book or magazine illustration...

This is a classic landscape of high mountains in the American west---possibly Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho or Montana, or the Pacific Northwest. The peak has a volcanic look to it so I might lean towards Oregon or Washington or Northern California even. The artist was born in Joliet, Illinois, and died there...

Watercolor and gouache on paper, 5 3/4" by 11 1/2", (10 1/2" by 16" as framed), signed at lower left by a talented and prolific Italian painter, I think one of a large group of painters going under the name "Gianni", possibly from the same family. Other works of such southern Italian scenes are signed M. Gianni. The auction houses I think have generally mixed up these late 19th/first half of the 20th century painters and the auction records are hopelessly tangled and inaccurate...

I thought it might read "Louise Brumback", but that artist died in 1929...

Finely executed PAIR of drawings in gouache, each 14" by 10" (21 1/2" by 18" framed), each featuring a 19th century kachina doll of the Southwest against a black neutral background.
