His or her handiwork has survived likely 150 years or more but has lost a little color from fading, and the paper has browned. These are not faults---rather, they give the drawing age and character...

A watercolor and white gouache painting on paperboard, 10" by 14", unframed, titled on reverse in pencil in old hand "On a Lonely Shore by Carl Oscar Borg". Nearby, another title is crossed out; seems to have read "On a Lonely Hill....". The artist is CARL OSCAR BORG (1879-1947), noted for his California and Southwest works. Borg was born in Sweden into modest circumstances...

Abstract watercolor, by Joseph Meierhans, Bucks County, Pa. modernist, circa 1940's. In very good original condition this work measures appx. 10 1/2" x 14". Estate stamped on verso. Meierhans, b. 1890 in Switzerland, came to the United States in 1917, eventually settling in Bucks County. He studied under A.N. Lindenmuth and J. Sloan. He was a member of the S.Indp.Artists, ASL, Provincetown A.A. and the American Abstract Artists.

Meraut". There does not seem to be information on this artist but the talent is obvious. Certainly he or she was familiar with Maurice Utrillo and his famous renderings of this special part of Paris...
