A painter and illustrator, Nichols was a member of quite an artistic family...

A beautiful watercolor of two horses drinking at a pond with a man on horseback. Measures framed 15x21”

Antique 19th Century Italian watercolor painting in the Baroque style of a mountainous landscape with a stone bridge over a river. Presented in cream colored matting and a silver gold wood frame. Image size: 14" x 19", overall dimensions: 20.5" x 24.5".

Watercolor on paper river fantasy scene set in the tropics, 10 1/2" by 22" and 3" wide circa early 20th century frame in very good condition, signed at lower right "W W COWELL" and dated 18(last two digits not easily discernible, possibly "189_" or could be "1879"). This is one of the rare works of painter WILLIAM WILSON COWELL (1819-1898), primarily an east coast artist who also was known to paint in the Great Lakes area, and, late in life, in Nova Scotia, Canada...

Orlando Norie (1832–1901), artist of military subjects, perhaps the most prolific painter of the British army in the 19th century along with Richard Simkin. It has been estimated that Norie alone painted well over 5,000 pictures. Although his family were of Scottish descent, they had moved to the continent, and Orlando was born in Bruges, Belgium on 15 January 1832...

Watercolor on paper, 10" by 8" (16" by 13 3/4" in a contemporary gold frame), the subject a white house looming above a country lane on which a horse-drawn carriage moves at left. The scene is obviously in the tropics or sub-tropics, there being palms and other exotic vegetation. It could be Bermuda, or, perhaps, somewhere in the Caribbean basin. The work is signed in pencil at lower right "J. Pittaway" and "'24 & '25" is adjacent...

Found in eastern Maine, a fine old still life pastel, the image including an orange, dark blue grapes, a walnut in the shell, and a metal vessel. At lower right are the words "GOOD SHEPHERD BAY VIEW" (???), but no signature. Circa 1900 date of execution judging from frame, which is dark stained walnut with gilt inner fillet. Size 9 1/4" by 12 3/4" (13" by 16 1/2" framed). Allow for a few reflections and some dust on the glass.

A beautifully executed watercolor painting of ladies on the shore of an Italian lake, high mountains and a red-roofed town on the opposite shore, signed at lower right by artist "L. Vian". This is likely a scene of one of the famous northern Italian lakes such as Lago Maggiore or Lago Como. The bright light is captured with skill and perspective and color is obviously well handled by a talented artist...

Watercolor on paper drawing, unframed, 15" by 21 1/2" inside the gold mat, the subject two proper late Victorian women with parasols, on a small boat in a lake landscape, towering trees in the background, signed at lower left with what appears as "D. G. Streeton", and dated there 1898. This is a nicely executed work, probably American. I cannot seem to match it to a known artist. It is not the work of Australian Arthur Ernest Streeton...

Watercolor on paper, 13 1/2" by 9 1/2" (and simple frame 1 3/8" wide), unsigned, the subject a hushed redwood forest obviously in Northern California, the sunlight dappling the forest floor, and a slight hint of man's intrusion in the form of a split wood fence or gate. The colors, handling, and subject matter suggest the hand of important early California watercolorist LORENZO P...

Watercolor on heavy paper of trees leaning over a lake, a swooping bird and small boat with primitive figures in the right lower portion, 12" by 21 1/2", signed at lower left "J. H. Dore" or "T. H. Dore". This is a late 19th century work with a primitive and folky touch. The green mat is too wide. Reframe this charming work with a smaller mat for optimum presentation.

Watercolor and gouache on paper scene of young trees along a bucolic dirt road in a hilly landscape, 12" by 15", (19 1/2" by 23" as framed), signed at lower right "C .GRANT DAVIDSON", and signed again in longhand in a margin area, dated there 1894. This is a work by CHARLES GRANT DAVIDSON (1865-1945), an American artist based out of New York who painted oil and watercolor scenes in the northeastern states. He is often confused with a British artist by the same name...

A very early watercolor landscape of a thicket and meadow at sunset, signed at lower left corner and dated there 1887 (or 1897?) by the noted Indiana artist JOHN ELWOOD BUNDY (1853-1933). The work, 5" by 8" (11 1/4" by 14 1/2" in frame) bears many color notations on the reverse, likely in the artist's handwriting, giving us some insight into the creative process. The scene is very peaceful and calming, showing us day's end...

Watercolor on paper painting of a lady sitting in a meadow in a rural landscape with a stream, plane trees, and grazing cows, 11 1/2" by 16 1/2" (" by " framed), with a penciled name "Marie Louise Garfield" on the (very recent) mat only. A nicely worked painting, by an obviously skilled artist, though I do not see a listing by this name, which again appears only on the mat, and not in the work itself. The name may well not have anything to do with the artist, who might have to remain anonymous...

Done by the renowned French Watercolorist dated 1882. Born in the Alsace region of France he was formally trained and also painted in Italy

A Very Fine Korean Bird/Flower Hanging Painting by 심전(心田), 안중식 (安中植) (1861~1919) Korean, late 19th century, hanging scroll/an Original Box with 安中植) written on a label. Painted in ink and color with a duck, sorghum, peonies and camellia flowers on silk, with inscription with poem, signature-心田, two seals, 安中植 and 心田 each painting. It is in very good condition but some it measures 81.5x27.5cm
