A striking modern watercolor and ink drawing signed at lower right in Hebrew by listed Israeli artist HANA LEVI (1914-2002). The work, 19" by 27" (27" by 34 1/2" framed) is elegant, with subdued color palette consisting of black, gray, conservative brown and light green. The artist is listed, and works are offered at auction, many closely resembling this one; though, there seems to be some confusion in the marketplace...

Watercolor on paper trompe l'oeil still life of wild bird, seeds, and other natural objects, 15 1/2" by 11 1/2" (24 1/2" by 20 1/2" as framed, and will be shipped without glass), signed boldly at lower left "Herbert Turrell". This is a beautiful, delicate work by an obviously talented artist who, according to my google research, exhibited at the prestigious Royal Academy in at least the early years of the twentieth century...

Oil on canvas painting of trees in a tawny dry landscape, 12" by 20" and 1" wide old wood frame, signed at lower left by artist S. J. TUJAGUE. At first I had difficulty reading the signature but some net research showed this to be by an artist apparently at least originally hailing from Louisiana, there being a number of pieces, some still life works, having been auctioned in New Orleans. A famous restaurant in that city goes by this name...

Watercolor on paper painting of the Nile RIver in Egypt and the pyramids of Giza, including date palms, the distinctive local dhows and a camel completing the scene, signed at lower left with the initial "W" by listed artist DAVID VASSILIOU. Vassiliou's biography is not extensive but he was evidently a prolific painter at mid century, most works featuring Egypt, Greece and the Mediterranean region. He seems to have always signed with this capital "W" for some reason...

Old early 20th century painting of a thin line of trees bordering a waterway, executed in a lovely impressionist palette with excellent handling of light, 17 1/2" by 21" as framed, signed in red at lower right corner "Chatterton". Though found in Ogunquit, Maine, in an art colony area where the well known American artist Clarence Chatterton was known to have painted, the signature does not resemble that of Chatterton, who was a student of Edward Hopper...

This is a PARIS STREET SCENE from a Virginia, U.S.A. Estate. Signed lower right: Brecla. Have researched this PAINTER and to date have not found a listing. Framed size is: 25 1/2" X 29 1/2"; sight size is 19 1/4" x 23 1/4". NOTRE DAME in the background and in EXCELLENT Condition ca. 1950 to 1970.

For the Orientalist art collector, this is a fine little drawing in pencil and watercolor, 5 1/2" by 8 1/4", (10 1/2" by 14" in its vintage frame), the subject an apparently Middle Eastern scene of classical temples set into a hillside. It has been suggested that this could be the famous Petra, Jordan site of classical antiquity. The work, glued to a sheet with "Ackermann & Co." blindstamped into the right corner, is unsigned...

Very fine Indian miniature painting on marble panel, depicting the royal court with the King on the Throne, close attention to details, use of vibrant gilt colors. The common and typical miniature paintings of this kind includes painting on ivory or paper or wood and this is my first experience involving use of marble in such painting...

An oil on canvas painting, unsigned, the subject the Arizona desert (we know that because of the saguaro cacti that are not found elsewhere), 22" by 30" (29 1/2" by 38" framed). The painting is deliberately painted in a very pale fuzzy blonde light, with pastel tones, making it somewhat difficult to photograph due to the lack of strong contrasts. The materials suggest a circa 1950's or late 1940's date of execution.

An oil on canvas painting of the symmetrical snow-capped cone of Mt. Fujiyama in Japan, hardy palms in the foreground, signed at lower right by Japanese artist "T. Arashi" (signed in English and Japanese characters), no date, circa 1980. The artist was very talented and has created a beautiful and arresting composition. The mystical, famous mountain stands in all its glory above the surrounding landscape. Condition is excellent. I have not been able to locate information on the artist...

Very antique drawing of a building, maybe a hotel/drinking establishment combination, large for its time and place, dominating a street scene filled with a number of tiny yet interesting figures, including a drummer at right; two horses; and even a dog. This work, apparently unsigned, measures 9 1/4" by 13 3/8". The artist used a soft paper and some kind of gouache or tempera, which allowed him to show fine detail, as well as a light pastel touch in the sky...

Acrylic on canvas, 23" by 35" plus 5/8" wide black simple frame, signed on reverse with what could be "Tamworth" or "Ramworth" plus copyright symbol (unsigned on front). This is an op-art type piece with a definite three dimensionality to it.......the dots "float" over the rest of the pattern, casting "shadows".......it's quite the contemporary work and would look great in any modern setting. An impressive panoramic alpine landscape painting of jagged mountain peaks at sunset, or dawn (actually titled "Sunrise over the Alps", the alpenglow effect captured beautifully, 27" by 39" (36" by 48" framed), signed at lower right by the artist, Waldner, and bearing placard with the above title and again the artist name. The work probably dates to about 1960. It is in excellent vintage condition. Linen liner is waterstained and can be replaced but painting and frame do not exhibit any moist...

From our Indian Subcontinent Collection, a very good pair of contemporary Indian miniature paintings of caparisoned elephants, executed in a palette that contrasts rich red with a lavish use of gilt, along with grey, white, and black. Often painted with single-haired sable brushes or their equivalent, some of the details here are so fine they are difficult to appreciate without a jeweler's loop. Even our 6x magnification camera lens does not fully capture all the detail, we can only see it all...
