This note discusses print 76-26, which Daniel Tretiak called "Maki’s little green Leisure Time."

An antique Kearsley hand coloured snake copper plate engraving print from 1801. This is a really fine example and it is entitled "VIPER-HEADAED SNAKE", from the original by James Heath. Published in 1801 for inclusion in "Kearsley's Systematic Natural History" series published in various volumes and with various topics beginning in 1800, this plate is from Volume 3 "Amphibia", published in 1802. Original 19th century albumen photograph by Jean-Pascal Sebah (1872-1947) depicting the old Cairo and the island of Rhoda (the photograph is titled in the plate l.l "Vieux Caire et Ile de Rowdah"). Signed in the plate l.r. Jean-Pascal Sebah was the son of Pascal Sebah (1823-1886). He continued the family studio in 1888 in Constantinople. The studio specialized in scenes of Egypt and the Middle East.

Original color lithograph by Jean Charlot (American, born in France). Titled "Mexican Mother" in pencil l.l. Also signed and dated in the plate l.r. and signed in pencil by the artist l.r. Jean Charlot emigrated to Mexico in 1922 where he created woodcuts and lithographs depicting the Mexican people. This work was pulled in Colorado Springs in 1948 with master printer Lawrence Barrett. Morse #520. Offered framed and archivally mounted. Image size: roughly 17" by 13".

Henry Sadd, British, 1811-1893, "Lord Viscount Nelson, Duke of Bronte," Mezzotint, plate size measures 15 1/2 x 20 1/2 inches on 25 3/4 x 20 inch wove type paper. From a painting by J. P. Knight. C. 1845. Engraved for the New York Albion, January 1st. 1845. Lettered below the image with the title in open, strengthened letters, around a crest with the motto 'Palmam Qui Meruit Ferat', and 'Born at Burnham Thorp, Co. of Norfolk, Sep. 9th. 1758.

Manuel Robbe, French, 1872-1936, "Le Bouquet de Violettes," etching, plate measures 7 1/2 x 11 3/4 inches on 22 3/4 x 16 1/4 inch watermarked arches laid type paper. Colored etching and Aquatint. C. 1903. 1st state, edition of 65. Larger edition of 100 after signature was added to plate. Pencil signed in the lower right. Catalog: P-K 105. An intimate portrait of a young woman in her dressing room affixing flowers to her dress.

Japanese limited-edition copperplate etching titled "Big Tree No. 2" by Tanaka Ryohei (1933-2019). Pencil-signed, dated '83, and numbered 33/130 in the lower margin. Paper size 13 1/4" x 12” (image: 9 x 8 1/4"). Never framed. Very good overall condition. There are a few pinhead sized light brown spots in the margin.

Jean Emile Laboureur, French, 1887-1943, "La Grande Bergère," etching, plate measures 9 1/2 x 6 1/4 inches on 15 x 9 5/8 inch watermarked wove type paper. Collector's stamp on back. Manuel Robbe, French, 1872-1936, "Claudine," colored etching and aquatint, plate measures 12 x 9 3/4 inches on 24 x 17 3/8 inch arches laid type paper. Print 26 in an edition of 65. C. 1903. Published by Sagot, Paris. Robbe studied at the Academie Julien and the Ecole des Beaux Artes, becoming a master of the aquatint medium. He developed much of his own aquatint techniques, which enabled him to create his uniquely painterly, richly colored images.

Daniel Tretiak wrote about prints that were new to him (in 2017) that included, in my (LDT)view, one of the strangest, hard-to-decipher prints that the artist ever did, Bai-1. It was an early one, created in 1958.
