A nicely painted American portrait miniature on organic wafer. The fine looking gentleman is nicely set off against a background of blue on the left side and a light brown on the right. Condition is excellent with no cracks, bowing, or paint loss. The case size is 2 1/8" by 1 5/8".
Print by Birger Sandzen (Swedish American Artist 1871-1954), titled "The Sentinels", a well known image by this revered artist, done with what is described as Nailhead print making, similar to his woodblock and linoleum prints, though having much more precise definition and detail.

The unusual characteristics of the piece are the hand decorated paper surround and that the painting is in a frame that slides into a close fitting leather case.
