Japanese wooden round kogo (box for incense during tea ceremony) lacquered with red lacquer on the inside. Material appears to be mulberry wood. Simple classic design, in perfect condition, signed SEIJU on the bottom. Diameter 2 3/8 inches. Part of a small East Coast kogo collection.

This lovely Bizen ware is called Kogo / incense container used for Japanese tea ceremony. The shape is a seed of wisteria suitable for tea ceremony in autumn / winter. This is the work of a potter Yoshimoto Shuho. Shuho was born in 1938 in Okayama prefecture and studied pottery under Fujita Yoshiro. After Shuho became independent, he first produced Bizen ware for 10 years...

Woodblock print by Japanese sōsaku-hanga artist Toshi Yoshida (1911-1995) titled "Irozaki Morning". It shows the beautiful Cape Irozaki, done with soft pastels in the sky as the sun rises in the distance. Waves crash upon the rocks in the foreground, and three ships can be seen leaving port. It is signed and titled in pencil along the bottom, stamped in the corner, and also signed in kanji along the outer edge. Size: 11.25" height, 15" length

Vintage Japanese kogo (box for incense during tea ceremony) made out of natural clam shell painted with lacquer on the inside with of a gnarled trunk and cherry flowers. Very clever design, rather suggestive erotic (see Enlargement 6) connotation as is usual with clam shape in Japanese culture, two parts fit perfectly and stay closed very well, in superb condition. Signed with a seal of the artist that seem to read TOGAI. Wonderful piece in Japanese taste. Length 3 5/8 inches.

Sculpture of Navajo woman weaving a rug on a loom. Woman is wearing native clothing with a mustard colored long dress, "silver" and "turquoise" belt, squash necklace, and buttons. Her wood loom made of debarked tree branches shows a half finished rug. At her feet are balls of yarn in the colors of the rug - grey, black, ochre, and rust. This attractive, double sided, flat weave wool rug uses natural dyes in red, black and tan to form the block designs. Very good condition, no holes or tears. DIMENSIONS: 55” x 35".
