A modernist pair of Sterling Silver salt and pepper shakers by Rancho Alegre. Main portion is in a brushed texture contrasting with the bottom disks which are shiny and smooth. The very top parts are shiny also. Measure 3" tall and 1 1/2" across the bottom. Signed Rancho Alegre, Sterling, Taxco and 925. Also signed N. Giles on the bottom of one, probably for the designer. Nice condition with some minor tarnish. Pre eagle, 1948. Fine Mid Century feel.
This is a Cultural Revolution porcelain figurine of Norman Bethune. It is more finely made than most Cultural Revolution figures and shows the Canadian doctor leading a donkey. Bethune served in the communist Eighth Route Army during the Sino-Japanese War and died from blood poisoning contracted in the operating room. He became a major embodiment of the revolutionary martyr in Cultural Revolution mythology...
Exquisitely crafted white "opalino a coste" cornucopia with gold powders created in 1955 by Archimede Seguso. An elegant modern form in a Sommerso blend of extremely light tints of blue and green. This fine modern expression is 12" x 4.5" x 4", and is free of chips, cracks, and scratches with a normal wear at the base reflecting its age and an etched Seguso signature. Most likely it was made by Angelo Seguso in the 1970s.
