Number 9 in a series of 12 Fornasetti plates commissioned in the 1970’s by Martini & Rossi. Each plate depicts an item in their wine museum in Pessione, in this case the first barrel – Il Primo Tino - used for the fabrication of the famous Martini vermouth. Pessione is a village in northern Italy, not far from Torino. The back of the plate gives a contextual presentation of the plate and has the Fornasetti brush in hand mark. Diameter "9 ¼ / 23.7 cm. Condition: fine.

This porcelain bowl was produced in Germany by Nymphenburg in the mid 20th century. It has both an impressed shield and printed mark. It is 8 1/8 inches in diameter and 1 1/2 inches deep. The porcelain is designed with molded ribs and slight scallops on the rim. It is hand painted with a bouquet of flowers in the center and little buds dotting the border. The rim is trimmed with gold. This extraordinary and sensuous ceramic sculpture depicts a muscular young man embracing an exaggerated grape cluster. "Drunken Young Man", by Kai Nielsen for Bing & Gröndahl in Copenhagen.
