Chinese Western Han Dynasty Painted Pottery Cocoon Jar (206 BC - AD 8)

This pottery "cocoon" jar was made over 2,000 years ago during the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8). It is made from a relatively highly-fired grey pottery and has been decorated by "cold painting" different coloured pigments in a design featuring cloud patterns within vertical bands.

Four unmounted vintage albumen photographs dating from the 1880's in Burma (British India). Three showing historical buildings in Mandalay and one with two Burmese boats. Condition: some fading, one print with a small tear, wavy. Dimension: approx.: 18 cm x 26 cm.

Two early vintage albumen prints, one showing a Japanese river landscape, the second one with a group of Western and Japanese men in a garden. Mounted on coeval cardboard. Condition: fine, minimally faded, the photo with the landscape with a tiny hole, the cardboard with two lost corners. Dimension: photo: c. 20.1 cm x 26.1 cm, cardboard: 34.8 cm x 43.8 cm.

An antique Japanese Honbako (book storage chest) made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original hardware with bronze locks added at a later date for security of drawers. 2 hinged doors open with the left door secured by a clasp style lock situated at the center of the shelf. Constructed using hardened wood nails and Japanese joinery.

Age: Meiji/Taisho Era (1910-1920)

This napkin ring is a well-formed rooster standing on a tiered, oval vase. The napkin holder has bright cut engraving. Circa 1870. This is made by the Wm. Rogers Mfg. Co #11.

Rare Chinese Neolithic Pottery Jar (Xindian)

This rare pottery jar was made around 3,000 years ago. Although we are not certain from which Neolithic culture it originates, it does have similarities to pottery of the Xindian Culture (c. 1200 - 500 BC). The surface colour of the pottery varies considerably due to uneven conditions in the kiln during firing. It a has a convex base with two wide loop handles and a castellated decorative band around both sides of the mouth...

Late 19th century game counter with rosewood body and 8 marine material tabs, each carved with a monkey in a different attitude. Excellent quality carving - see their fine hairwork, expressive faces and dynamic postures. Counters like this one were used to keep score in the game of whist and became a popular export item to the West in the late 19th century. In excellent condition, tabs lift and go back down perfectly, no cracks, losses or repairs. Counter size 3 5/8 x 2 x 3/8 inches.

Rare Chinese Eastern Han Dynasty Pottery Money Tree Base (AD 25 - 220)

This very rare and large moulded pottery object was made during the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 25 - 220). It is the base to a "money tree" and has been excavated from Sichuan province. The coin-shedding, or money tree is known from late Han Dynasty funerary art from the south-west of China. It was believed that if shaken, coins would fall from it...

Antique Chinese Chizhou stoneware kendi (handleless pouring vessel with spout). Also called Tz'u-chou, this high-fire stoneware is decorated with rich brown-black glaze. It has a raised design of a band of flowers around it's middle and a scalloped pattern around it's mouth. The elegant form has a tapered spout with a slight bend.

Dimensions:

A small Thai pedestal silver tray made in several parts. With repoussed and incised decoration of an animal and flower scrolls. Dimension: diameter: c. 14 cm, 6 cm high, weight: 163 g. Condition: few traces of usage.

Late 18th to early 19th century wooden netsuke of seated Hotei (one of the 7 Gods of Good Fortune and incarnation of Maitreya - the Buddha of the future) with wide smile and a fan in his hand. Strong carving with wonderfully captured facial expression, beautiful wear and patina. Height 1 3/16 inches.

A scarce scarce Mesopotamian Bifacial tablet seal in greenish black stone, Mesopotamia, ca. 4th.-3rd. millenium BC.

The seal predynastic and very interesting in that it has a double image of stylized scorpions and a labyrint.

Size: 28 mm. long and 19 mm. wide.

Condition: Choice, fine patina and wear but intact.

Rather unusual late 19th century miniature Chinese Shoushan soapstone carving of a snarling chimera seated on a base. Superb carving, rare excellent quality butterscotch color stone, great patina. Neat hole in the base for hanging. Wonderful object for a scholar’s desk. Height 0.68 inches (17.5 mm).

This old wooden dragon was hand carved with an expressive face and large black eyes. He balances nicely with his tail on a short pedestal. Gripping his prized pineapple in his paws, he licks it with his tongue, clearly relishing the sweet taste. The pineapple has a short hollow plug on top to provide for an incense stick.

The name Zhang Feng Chao is carved on the underside of the pedestal. This old dragon is a wonderful example of an old Chinese folk art artifact...

Rare Large Chinese Han Dynasty Glazed Granary with Cover

This large and impressive pottery vessel was made some 2,000 years ago during the latter part of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8), the short-lived Xin Dynasty (AD 9 - 25) or the early Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 25 - 220). It is very similar to other large amber-glazed granaries excavated from a tomb in Xi'an dated to the Xin Dynasty (AD 9 - 25).

This vessel is a granary and its top part represents a two-tiered tiled roof...

Late Qianlong Period, 1700s

This lidded box is enameled with a floral pattern on the lid and four sides. The various colored flowers are arranged against a turquoise blue ground with an overall background of geometric pattern of cloisons The exposed metal that is not enameled is gilded both inside and outside the box with the gilding having mostly worn off the wires of the flowers and background from age and use...

This is from Qing Dynasty or Republic era beadwork headgear of chinese noble lady , like those portrayed in those old classic chinese painting in the courtyard where you can see them wearing it....and carrying a walking stick.....
