Antique Japanese low Todana tansu with one large drawer and a compartment opened with sliding panels. This is a rare Wan type chawan, around 400 years old in shape close to a tenmoku tea bowl. It is thrown on a wheel from coarse, unrefined iron bearing clay.

The grey ash glaze has been painted on the body with a straw brush as seen on Korean hakeme chawan. A stone in the wall has exploded in the fire - a very sought after effect ( see pic number 2 ), giving this type of Karatsu bowls its name: ishihaze (exploding stone)...

Very nice and large gilt Chinese bronze Buddha, made in the late 19th century, 19'' height and 8,9 kg heavy. Marked 'Da Ming Yong Le Nian Shi'.
