Antique Chinese black lacquer six-panel screen, with red and gold leaf lacquer "venn diagram" patterns as a background. Each panel has gorgeous hardstone inlaid birds of many kinds (including peacocks, roosters, sparrows, water birds, and robins), and an abundance of flora such as lotuses and chrysanthemums, accented with gold leaf. This chawan was made by the 8th generation Ohi Chozaemon (1851-1927) based in Kanazawa and is done in a style known as “ameyu” or candy glazing. The glazing is a wonderful example of ameyu and, in fact, approximates the color of a caramel candied-apple. The interesting color scheme and glossy sheen make it an attractive backdrop for a frothy bowl of dark green matcha. While some tea bowls may look best in the confines of a dimly lit tea room, this bowl looks much better in bright light...

This unusual jade (jadeite) pendant is 2 ¼” long, 2” wide (measured from the widest part) and 5/8” thick (measured from the thickest part). It is a late 19th or early 20th century product. It is carved on both sides as two double gourds (葫蘆) resting against each other. A twisted RuYi (如意) scepter with LingZhi (靈芝) ends and a branch of flower blossom are leaning over them. Chinese 4th Rank Court Official's silk badge of a wild goose. The background is black silk and is embroidered with very fine metal threads. The sun and its tendrils are silver foiled threads tacked down with red silk threads. The flowers are also silver but tacked down with green silk threads. The flowers appear to be white chrysanthemums, a symbol of nobility, elegance, and longevity. Each flower encompasses a display blue forbidden stitch knots to create the effect of pollen being dispersed...

Enclosed in silver wire of varied thickness, boldly enameled iris grace this deep blue 6.5" Japanese cloisonne vase.

Condition: Three tiny red cloisons under the top rim are missing, behind these are small chips. The damage is under the rim at the back of the vase above the single iris bud and is not easily seen. There are no other issues.
