A well carved, painted, terracotta pipe made by skilled potters of either the Bamessing or the Babungo on the Cameroon Grasfields. Originally, only Kings, chiefs and court officials would have smoked prestige pipes of this kind but the potters were quick to create these pipes for sale to Europeans even before the colonial period. This pipe portrays a dignatory with his elaborate hat (possibly beaded). There are pipe heads of this type on display in the Liverpool World Museum...

An ancient Egyptian Scarab for Tuthmosis III, c. 1450 BC, from the famous Mitry collection (see our Homepage). It is 5/16” long (8 mm) and made of steatite, an easy-to-carve stone that hardens when heated. Scarabs empowered life and resurrection and were often placed under mummy wrappings to protect the body and to help it resurrect. This Scarab comes in a jewelry display cup.

An antique Japanese large Kyoto Mizuya Tansu (kitchen chest) in 2 sections that was made of Hinoki (Cypress), Kakinoki (Persimmon) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. The center drawers have a very unique design made by the decorative Persimmon accents making each one look like a gift box. All sliding doors have Persimmon runners used to smooth out the slide and help prevent wear at the bottom.

Two Georgian bucket bowl port or small wine glasses with panel-cut cups and stems, English, c 1800. One a little heavier than the other and with the pontil mark deep into the glass and partly visible, whereas to the other glass the pontil mark is polished flat. Height "4/ 10 cm. Condition: fine.

A beautifully executed flashed and engraved covered goblet depicting scenes from the Teplitz and other resorts. The goblet has 6 panels, one of which has the location and date, another with initials, and 4 showing, in wonderful detail, various buildings with their names. The color of the flashing is a deep rich red, which I lightened so that the details could more easily be seen.

The foot has a chip and some loss, shown in two of the photos,and there is a chip on the underside rim of the cover...

Japanese Arita porcelain square sake bottle with Dutch Kakiemon decoration. The bottle is square with a short waisted neck and everted lip. Wonderful satin stitch embroidery of flowers and butterflies decorate this charming antique Chinese Miao baby hat. The front has 4 silver Buddha ornaments and the back sports the traditional Miao ornament of a butterfly with dangling bells to protect the child from evil spirits. The hat is softly padded to keep baby's head warm.

Twelve eight pointed stars made of cotton printed in orange with small yellow clover-like shapes arranged in rows of twos and threes with alternating white squares all enclosed in three bands of the same printed fabric. The outside band is turned over the edge to join the white cotton backing. Cotton seeds visible in the stuffing. All hand stitched. This jade carving depicts two dragons, seated back to back and is, as best I can tell, the real deal. Not only are there no signs whatsoever of modern tooling, but each of the holes at the snout has been drilled from both sides, using a conical bit. The jade itself does not lie 100% flat, which would be another "telltale" of modern production. Instead, it is slightly curved. Rare and exquisite footed, fluted, pierced and engraved sterling Gorham bowl with gilded interior. This gorgeous bowl has it all and makes a beautiful centerpiece. It measures 10 1/2"long by 7" wide and is 3 1/4" deep. The bottom is engraved 1898, but the marks indicate it was made in 1891. Marks include a lion, anchor, G, an a lion head (indicating 1891) and Sterling. It is in excellent condition.

Diameter approximately 13.3cm (across the body). Few soft dent. Fair erosion. Nice patina. In good condition.

Mid 19th C Staffordshire figurine of a tailor riding a goat with 2 kids in a basket. Inspired by Meissen' s Tailor of Count Bruhl figurine, the goat is carrying an iron in her mouth while the tailor is holding a small roll of material in his hand. Offered is this desirable, circa 1900, smooth face hickory shaft golf club from the noted Scottish AUCHTERLONIE club maker shop. C1860 sterling silver pendeloque earrings, over three inches long, make a statement no matter the occasion. The silver earrings have a thin fluted silver band wrapped round and round culminating in a small finial at the bottom. The thin silver fluted band is repeated on the top of the earring in 3 offset curves. These earrings are surprisingly light. The butterfly backs help the earrings fit securely on the ear (hopefully) never to be lost!
