Small beehive-form pot is covered in a rich, lustrous copper-red glaze that drains to a pale celadon tone on one side. The interior is glazed white with the glaze crackles being highlighted by ink staining from long term use. The copper has drained from the mouth leaving the often seen attractive white ring. The glaze stops at the beginning of the foot which though left unglazed has burnt a pale orange tone in the firing...

19th century Chinese porcelain snuff bottle molded like a string of grapes. The cap is made of turquoise; the original spoon is gone. There are no chips or crack lines. The leaves show different tones of green. It is a neat piece and in good condition. H: 3 ¾ inches, W: 2 inches

This pair is part of a collection we are posting on the site. These are often misidentified as crossbow arrow ends. However, to our knowledge no such items have ever been found associated with crossbow bolts. These particular pieces went over the ends of the wooden ribs in large parasols. The protruding hooks put tension on the strings or straps that were attached to the skin of the parasol. This is a matched pair that is attributed to the Warring States period (475-221 BC)...

A fine snuff tobacco container made of a dried, double gourd, decorated with gilt silver mounts and inset with carnelian and tiny blue and white cabochons. The ram horn-shapped stopper is attached to an elaborate silver chain. These tobacco containers were used by the Turkman tribes. Condition: fine, few traces of usage. Dimension: c. 14.8 cm long, Diameter: c. 6.2 cm.

An elegant Art Nouveau glass vase decorated with enameled poppies. The blossoms are worked in shades of cream, yellow, rose and violet, while the foliage is stained a reddish-purple and highlighted with complex lacy gilding. The upper rim is decorated with a band of stained and gilt flowers, as well. The vase is blown in pillar form with an optic paneled design. The workmanship is very fine...

Antique Japanese ema of a horse. This ema is a dedication plaque that was made as an offering in a shinto shrine. Horses are considered vehicles of the gods, so this ema was made at the highest level in order to convey an important wish as speedily as possible. Painted in mineral colors on keyaki (elm) wood.

A pair of Staffordhire copper lustre creamers or milk jugs / pitchers. Early Victorian Rococo revival shape and pretty decoration of vines against an orange background. Height: "4 3/4/12 cm. Condition: one with some crackling to the glaze (cf. pics).

Antique Chinese robe, made of silk and woven with brilliantly colored fenghuang (phoenix) or firebirds, flowers and other feminine objects on a blue ground. Generous use of gold leaf covered thread, especially on the head and body of the birds.

Fenghuang (or Chinese phoenix) are considered a strong female symbol and the embodiment of high virtue and grace. This is especially true when it is used in the decorations for weddings or royalty along with dragons...

An overall design of plum blossoms and buds on a rich blue background. The base and mouth are rimmed in silver. There is no maker’s mark, but similar works with generally the same pattern were produced by the artist Hayashi Tanigoro in the Taisho period, 1912-1926. Very good condition, having only a very small dent in the edge of the silver rim.

Height: 8 ¼ in.

Glass container with silver 925 applique. The base contains a seal. Possibly Mexican.
It measures 4.25" height and 2.5" wide at its widest point.

Extraordinary stunning Japanese robe of purple woven asa (hemp), with gold woven through in striations and bold gingko leaf design. The suou is the traditional kimono once worn during ceremonies by the samurai during the Muromachi period (1392-1573).
As styles of fashion evolved latter around the 17th century onwards, the suou became in important costume worn by the actors of the noh and kyogen theaters. Today the suou is still used in Noh and Kyogen, and with the Shrine maidens...

An antique Japanese Mikuni Choba Tansu (merchant chest) made of Aka Matsu (Red Pine), Hinoki (Cypress) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. Original lacquer finish and hand forged iron hardware including the Warabite handles and full moon lock plates). Through mortise and tenon Japanese joinery and side ribs for strength and support. Lift-up side handles allow through a wood pole letting two persons carry the tansu from store to store...

Large Chinese late Qing dynasty export porcelain punch bowl decorated around the circumference in famille rose enamels with birds, flowers, and butterflies. A dense polychrome enamel border extends around the interior and exterior of the top. A few blue bats are scattered on the exterior border and gilt highlights the rim. 14 1/4" diameter x 6 1/2" high. Late 19th century. Very good overall condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs...
