Cotton futonji with katazome (stencil-resist dye), which is remade from yogi (one kind of futon in the shape of kimono). It is made of hand spun cotton and dyed with vegetable indigo. According to Legend, Ikkaku is an inmortal who could no resist the sight of women on the earth, and he was punished by the loss of his power. 18th century netsuke of a seated skinny dog wearing a collar with bell and resting one front paw on a cloth ball. Strong early piece, beautifully carved - great face with horn inlaid eyes, wonderful rendition of its spine and ribs, superbly carved paws, netsuke of characteristic 18th century triangular section, beautiful wear and patina (some irregularities on the surface on the darker colored part of its back), old age lines...

A set of 5 mid-size dishes in the shape of half opened folding fans. On the bottom of each a decoration of two wheels, floating in a river in iron brown underneath thick cream-colored opaque glaze, and the right-side corner covered in thick green glaze typical for Oribe. The inside structured through the impression of a muslin-like cloth.

The back is engraved to indicate the spokes of the fan...

A striking late 19th Century Chinese Blue & White bulbous lidded Jar. One side has centering underglaze blue shaped rockwork issuing auspicious blossoming stems. Surmounted by a conforming original lid enclosing 3 stylized spread winged bats and a bud form finial. Comes with a nice hardwood Chinese stand. Good condition overall with normal wear. From our Japanese Collection, a large and beautiful imari charger, Meiji Period (1868-1912), one of two similar pieces we have, of scalloped-edge form with a basket of flowers in the center medallion, and panels of prunus and karakusa in the outer border, all vibrantly executed in traditional imari palette of iron-red, blue, orange, and gilt. This is a rich and gorgeous piece with great presence.

Stunning Japanese golden Tenmoku Chawan of Kyo Yaki. The brown pottery is covered with a gorgeous gold glaze and shows a wonderful crazing. It dates back to the later Meiji Period (1868-1912) and is in greatest antique condition with no chips or cracks.

Kyo-yaki is a type of Japanese pottery. It is a generic name given to pottery made in Kyoto, such as Awataguchi-yaki (Awataguchi pottery) and Omuro-yaki (Omuro pottery)...

A beautiful mahogany shaped knife box made of solid sides and fitted with slotted board to hold knives. The cyma and creased shaped front supports a non-working brass lock escutcheon and opening handle. The corners are molded. The cover is decorated with a star inside, and attached with brass hinges. The base of the box is also molded. Over all, the design and construction are sumptuous.

Chinese Neolithic tripod earthenware ewer (gui) of the Dawenkou culture (4th-3rd millennium BCE) meant for use in religious ceremonies. The vessel has a flared, upwards pointing mouth with a single ribbed handle on its back, ribbing along the body's edges, and its tripod legs are dramatically tapered to the feet.

Antique 19th century Meiji period Japanese five-case, dark brown Cinnabar lacquer Inro with finely hand carved flower heads.

An Inro is a small portable case with several compartments. Originally used for holding medicine or other small items, they became a part of traditional Japanese male costume.

A rare Yuan dynasty blue and white small jar with cover, decorated with under glaze blue of peony flower motif, unglazed base, jar and cover is in good no damage no chip no crack no restoration, size: 7 cm height, 6 cm diameter.

This peach bloom glazed vase (mei ping) is a late 19th century product. It is 6 ¾” high, 2” wide from the middle, 1” wide from the bottom and 1 5/8” wide from the mouth of the vase. There is a six character blue under glaze KangXi honorable mark on the bottom. There are two spiral stretch lines inside the narrow neck but did not show from the outside. It is in great condition.

Medallion in red silk embroidered with stylized flowers in colored silk and scrolls embroidered with gold metallic ribbons. The reverse lined with old rose colored silk. Precise and careful details, of the best quality. No catering. Complete medallion. Full gold ribbons, some slightly worn as seen in photos. Diameter: 295 to 300mm. 19th century Chinese work.
